Small independent family owned grocery chain is looking for a Scanner/Scanning Coordinator to join our Team. We have an opening in our Elkridge, Green Valley Marketplace.

Position Summary:

The Scanner (SCAN) is responsible for maintaining overall price integrity in the store. Promotes and maintains the B. Green’s mission, values, and culture. Provides exceptional communication and service to internal and external customers.

Essential Duties:

  • Maintains compliance with company policies and procedures with respect to department operations and quality to ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and OSHA/MOSH safety.
  • Provides prompt and friendly customer service and maintains a positive work environment.
  • Checks for any price updates from office, verifies, and changes as needed.
  • Monitors sales events for accuracy in scanning and signage; maintains current knowledge of weekly ad items and ensures pricing integrity.
  • Performs scan audits according to schedule, keeping a clean and organized scan office.
  • Check dates of all sales price tags to determine the accuracy of prices.
  • Conducts a total sign program that informs the customers of our pricing integrity, quickly and accurately making signs as needed.
  • Verifies weekly ad and promotional price accuracy.
  • Promotes 100% scan accuracy program and researches discrepancies making corrections promptly.
  • Works closely with front end cashiers and supervisors regarding scan accuracy.
  • Distributes discontinued sheets and upcoming specials to appropriate personnel.
  • Establishes and maintains communication with Cashiers to ensure a smooth transition of products being delivered.
  • Informs management of any problem areas in pricing or signs throughout the store.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience, similar duties, preferably in grocery.
  • Must possess a positive attitude, self-starter, good attention to detail, and team player required.
  • Must have good communication skills, and interface well with management, co-workers, and the public.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment with heavy volume of transactions a must.
  • Must have general knowledge of accounting principles and billing processes and strong analytical skills.
  • Must have strong knowledge in math, pricing, and technology.
  • Demonstrated accountability, sense of ownership, and urgency. Demonstrated experience with a roll-up the sleeves and can-do attitude.
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs routinely, and occasionally up to 50 lbs.
  • Must possess working knowledge of scanning systems.

The role will rely heavily upon the incumbents’ ability to communicate clearly and as such, the ability to speak, listen and comprehend information is critical. There will be long, extensive periods of sitting while working on a computer, requiring finger dexterity/visual acuity). retail stores, the ability to walk, stand, and climb stairs is required. Must possess the manual dexterity to use a computer for long, extensive periods of time. Must possess ability to utilize the phone, requiring auditory and verbal senses. Ability to lift 25 lbs routinely, and occasionally up to 50 lbs.

Work Environment: Work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The work environment is based in a retail store. Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.

Work Schedule: Full time role to equate to 30 hours or more per week. Part time role to equate to an average of 29.9 hours or less per week. Occasionally, there may be business functions that will require your presence on additional nights and/or weekends.
