Bakersfield City School District is Hiring a Licensed Vocational Nurse Near Bakersfield, CA

LICENSED VOCATIONAL NURSEQualifications
  • Valid California license as Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) or other California nursing license above LVN level
  • Valid first aid and CPR certification from recognized agency
  • Experience as nurse, preferably in school or pediatric health care setting
  • Knowledge and ability in variety of methods, procedures and equipment commonly used in pediatric and specializedhealth care
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, students, parents and community
  • Knowledge of crisis management techniques; ability to react effectively in emergency situations; knowledge ofcommunity emergency medical resources
  • Valid driver’s license and personal car for use on district business
REPORTS TO: Administrator as assigned
JOB GOAL: To assist in facilitating educational process by providing health services for students
Performance Responsibilities
  • Assists school nurses in providing variety of health-related services including but not limited to screenings,assessments, education, training and procedures
  • Travels to various school sites and performs wide variety of nursing duties within the scope of LVN licensure
  • Performs specialized physical health care procedures including but not limited to suctioning, blood sugar testing,medication administration, ventilator use, drip and tube feeding, catheterization, colostomy care and oxygen administration
  • Follows prescribed procedures of first aid, emergency care, medication at school, specialized physical health care, and school health programs
  • Maintains documentation of health care services; updates and maintains medical records; assists with student health and immunization records as assigned; keeps related records and prepares reports as required
  • Communicates with students, staff, parents and community to exchange information, make referrals, schedule appointments, provide training/education, and coordinate other activities related to student health services
  • Assists in lifting, moving and positioning students as necessary to render various health services including but not limited to therapy and specialized procedures; assists students in use of wheelchairs, braces or other orthopedic equipment; operates specialized medical equipment and instruments as needed
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
SALARY: $25.66 - $31.19 per hour

Copies of required certificates, transcripts or diplomas may be submitted with application. District may require that originals be presented for verification prior to employment. Please check with Human Resources regarding acceptable documents. For positions requiring college course work official transcripts will be required upon employment.It is the applicant’s responsibility to meet all application requirements and supply copies of all required documents. A separate set of paperwork is required for each application submitted. All application materials submitted become the property of Bakersfield City School District.
Conditions Of EmploymentSome positions may require proof of privately owned automobile insurance and the possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle operator’s license. Fingerprint clearance by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Justice is a condition of appointment after all other required job conditions have been met. Must present verification of completion of Child Abuse Mandated Reporter training or obtain verification within six (6) weeks of hire and annually thereafter, as required by the California Child Abuse Neglect Reporting Act; must also complete the Sexual Harassment Prevention Training for non-supervisory staff..
