Description

Position Summary:

The Fitness manager will be responsible for providing leadership and training in all areas of the fitness facilities and as well as staff. They will lead a team to ensure the delivery of exceptional service and experiences for our members and guests.

Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  1. Manages all Fitness operations and activities. Responsible for planning department goals and directing Fitness coaches to help achieve members/client desired results.
  2. Ensures Fitness areas are properly maintained in clean, safe and appealing manner to provide optimal experience for Club members and guests. Ensures department follows all standard sanitation and health department guidelines. Ensures gym equipment is maintained to provide safe environment. Maintains enough inventory of supplies and equipment and orders as needed. Participates in weekly/monthly inventories. Plans and implements special events.
  3. Develop and implement comprehensive fitness programs to meet the needs and preferences of our members/guests.
  4. Design and implement creative group fitness and other fitness-related activities classes to promote engagement and retention.
  5. Ensures members/guests receive outstanding, consistent, exceptional service by circulating through each area of responsibility. Seeks opportunities to improve satisfaction and immediately handles any member/guest concerns or complaints. Takes corrective action as needed.
  6. Monitors and assesses service and satisfaction trends, evaluates and addresses issues and makes improvements accordingly.
  7. Monitors and develops Team Member performance to include, but not limited to, providing supervision, scheduling, conducting counseling and evaluations and delivering recognition and reward. Completes all required training as scheduled.
  8. Works to control expenses and maximize profitability within assigned areas. Utilizes corporate approved computer programs to analyze forecasts, cost and revenue reports. Makes decisions and acts based on that information to maximize profitability. Ensures quality and inventory control while minimizing waste or loss to maintain profitability. Participates in the budgeting process.
  9. Monitors SOPs to ensure consistent exceptional service is provided. Assists in developing and updating policies and procedures. Participates in weekly meetings with Management Team to ensure weekly goals, challenges, and service standards are met.
  10. Follows all safety policies and procedures. Reports potential safety issues to director whenever observed and takes immediate action to resolve them in emergency situations. OSHA laws require the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when performing work duties that have the potential of risk to your health or safety. Team Members will be trained in the proper use and care of assigned PPE if applicable. The property provides the required PPE. Team Member has responsibility to report defective, damaged or lost PPE or equipment that does not fit properly to their manager. Maintains strict compliance with property's Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) program and familiarizes self with current MSDS.
  11. Reporting to work as scheduled (on time and on regular basis) is an essential function of the job.

Other Responsibilities/Supportive Functions:

  1. Makes merit decisions within budget or established guidelines. Determines promotions or reclassifications within company policy.
  2. Approves leave and time away from work within company policy. Enters schedules and monitors timecards for accuracy.
  3. Runs and analyzes various reports to monitor customer satisfaction, occupancy, revenue, competitive situations, etc.
  4. Responds to member/guest inquiries and coordinates special arrangements and requests. Effectively deals with internal customers and members, some of whom may require a high level of patience, tact and diplomacy to defuse anger. Collects accurate information and resolves conflicts. Keeps immediate supervisor promptly and fully informed of any problems, potential safety issues, or unusual situations so prompt corrective action may be taken. Communicates with other departments to fulfill Member needs.
  5. Notifies management of any problems resulting from member/guest complaints, intoxication or disruptive behavior.

Qualifications


Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Management, or related field desired.
  • Three or more years in a fitness leadership or management role, preferably in a club or gym environment and demonstrated success within that role.
  • You must possess a certification as a Personal Trainer.
  • Must have an in-depth knowledge of fitness principles, exercise techniques, and training methodologies.
  • Requires ability to lead others in the department by mentoring and providing training that results in Team Members that meets/exceeds member/guest expectations and provides a high level of member/guest satisfaction.
  • Ability to monitor labor as required by anticipating business activity while ensuring that positions are staffed when and as needed and labor cost objectives are met.
  • Must have excellent customer service/communication skills to work with members/guests of various social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds for the purpose of resolving problems/complaints and providing a high level of member/guest satisfaction. Requires ability to serve needs of member/guest through use of the phone, computer and face-to-face. Contacts sometimes contain confidential/sensitive information so requires ability to use discretion. Must demonstrate positive attitude and professional demeanor. Requires strong communication and interpersonal skills and commitment to a high level of member/guest satisfaction.
  • Able to use mathematics to solve problems.
  • Uses logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. Requires attention to detail.
    Must be able to solve problems and remain calm and alert if dealing with difficult member/guest, during busy activity periods or in an emergency.
  • Requires computer skills to enter data, read, and interpret information. Requires working knowledge of MS Office applications and ability to learn and use telephone and computer systems used at the property. Must be able to conduct Internet searches to obtain information and place orders.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple tasks. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations
    where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, Team Members, guests and the general public. Must be able to speak, read, write and understand English to communicate with management, Team Members and guests.
  • Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, Team Members may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the property. Work schedules will include working on holidays, weekends and alternate shifts.

Special Skills & Abilities/Mental and Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of the job the Team Member regularly stands and walks for sustained periods of time. Works at a quick pace, maneuvering between functions occurring simultaneously. The Team Member regularly grasps objects. The Team Member regularly reaches by extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction while performing other essential functions of the job. The Team Member frequently talks and needs to hear voices when communicating with Members and Team Members. Many aromas and smells are present in the pool and gym areas. Balance is frequently required to prevent falling when walking, standing, moving or carrying merchandise and display items. Lifting is occasionally required to handle merchandise and displays. Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move items such as boxes and displays. The Team Member is required to have close visual acuity to operate a computer. The Team Member is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work areas. The Team Member is subject to environmental conditions found working both inside and outside. The Team Member is occasionally subject to extreme heat, with temperatures above 100 degrees while moving around the property while outside temperatures are high. The Team Member is typically subject to moderate noise (or music) when working in or around the property. The Team Member is subject to hazards that include proximity to moving mechanical parts, sharp objects, and exposure to cleaning chemicals. The Team Member is occasionally subject to atmospheric condition such as fumes, odors, or dusts.
