Job Title – Child Nutrition Program Assistant Manager

Supervised by/Reports To: School Principal and CNP Manager

Supervises: CNP workers as assigned.

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Job Goals:

To provide direction, planning, monitoring, and oversight of local school Child Nutrition Program (CNP).

 To supervise, direct, develop, and evaluate CNP personnel and designated staff to ensure quality and safety of school system food services that enhance student achievement and educational programs.

 To provide healthy, nutritious meals and food preparation services for students, staff, visitors, and community members of Baldwin County Schools.

Qualifications:

1. High school diploma or equivalent.

2. Experience in Child Nutrition Program preferred.

3. Knowledge of Child Nutrition Program guidelines and regulations.

4. Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.

5. Ability to use technology as required to perform job responsibilities.

6. Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.

7. Ability to assist in the supervision and development of assigned personnel according to school system procedures.

8. Ability to demonstrate leadership, organization, collaboration, and planning skills to accomplish school goals and job requirements.

9. Ability to possess and maintain food safety certification provided by the Baldwin County Health Department.

10. Ability to complete annual continuing education training as required by the USDA.

11. Strength, stamina, agility, dexterity, and acuity to perform job responsibilities safely and effectively.

12. Ability, agility and stamina to engage in prolonged standing, stooping, kneeling, bending, turning, reaching, and repetitive lifting up to 30 pounds.

13. Ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

14. Ability and willingness to work after hours, weekends, or holidays when necessary.

15. Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.

16. Such alternative qualifications to those listed as the Board may require.

Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

1. Demonstrates support for the school system and its goals and priorities.

2. Works cooperatively and productively with the principal and supervisors to ensure the system’s vision, goals and strategies are implemented and providing all pertinent data to all appropriate personnel within the designated time frame.

3. Assists in preparation and service of food according to the written menu of the day.

4. Participates in and assists in supervising job rotation/schedule as assigned by CNP Manager or Supervisor.

5. Assists CNP manager in ensuring the smooth function of activities during meal times, filling in where necessary.

6. Assists CNP manager in taking inventories, making reports, ordering food, supplies, and in following menus.

7. Demonstrates skills and knowledge in operation of and maintenance techniques for all food service equipment.

8. Notifies the CNP manager when food staples or supplies need replenishing.

9. Assists in the general cleaning of the kitchen and dining areas.

10. Assists in storing commodities and other food and supplies.

11. In the absence of the CNP manager, assumes the manager’s responsibilities.

12. Observes proper sanitation measures necessary in preparing, serving and storing food.

13. Observes safety precautions in the kitchen and related work areas.

14. Cooperates with the principal, CNP manager, and CNP supervisor in maintaining high standards in the food service program.

15. Works cooperatively with co-workers, teachers, parents, and deals effectively with students.

16. Follows written and verbal instructions and communicates effectively with others.

17. Assists school CNP staff in interpreting the goals and objectives of the school food service program to students, teachers, parents and community members.

18. Maintains adequate and accurate records and controls including personnel, financial, inventories, operational, and purchasing of food, supplies and equipment.

19. Cooperates with health officials in supporting all local and state public health laws and codes.

20. Participates in and promotes inservice training, conferences, and continuing educational programs for self-improvement and for other CNP personnel.

21. Maintains professional appearance and dress appropriate for school food service program (uniform, hair net/hat, closed-toe shoes with non-skid sole, etc.)

22. Models and encourages CNP employees to observe high standards of grooming, safety, and effective work habits.

23. Uses computer software/technology for CNP operations as assigned.

24. Engages in professional growth and demonstrates professional ethics and effective leadership.

25. Performs duties in a courteous and professional manner.

26. Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.

27. Demonstrates initiative in identifying potential problems and/or opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility.

28. Reports potential problems, unusual events, or work irregularities to appropriate administrative or supervisory personnel.

29. Responds to inquiries, requests, constructive feedback, concerns and/or complaints in a timely and positive manner.

30. Maintains and submits reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.

31. Properly uses and cares for tools, equipment, and material resources of the school system and effectively supervises and monitors others in the care, maintenance, and use of tools, equipment, and inventory.

32. Serves on school/system committees as required or appropriate.

33. Uses effective collaboration skills to work as an effective team member.

34. Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local regulations.

35. Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures.

36. Performs other job-related duties as assigned by principal and/or supervisor(s).

Terms of Employment: Nine-month (185 day) position in accordance with the Board’s salary schedule.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the State Department of Education and/or Baldwin County Board of Education policy on evaluation of classified personnel.
