Summary

Balfour Beatty Construction is seeking a Safety, Health and Environmental Coordinator for its Scottsdale, AZ, office. This is a permanent position involving construction projects primarily exclusive to the Phoenix market. No overnight travel related to projects will be required, ensuring work-life balance.

This position serves as the primary loss prevention support for construction projects. The Safety, Health and Envrionmental Coordinator acts as the liaison between the jobsite and the Safety, Health & Environmental Director, ensuring all safety standard operating procedures are followed at the jobsite. This individual also ensures all administrative needs and documentation duties for company safety programs are addressed.

Essential Functions

Loss Prevention Responsibilities

  • Organizes and administers SH&E records and reports.
  • Trains employees about company safety policies and hazards.
  • Requisitions safety, first aid and fire prevention equipment and ensure it stays in good condition.
  • Makes daily inspections of the job site, shops and material stockyards. Reports unsafe acts or conditions to the Superintendent or Project Manager and follows up to confirm situations are corrected.
  • Coordinates all Loss Prevention efforts on the project with the Project Manager and Superintendent.
  • Prepares minutes of and participates in weekly safety meetings with supervisors. Participates in and records the outcome of toolbox meetings with employees, as well as the maintenance of attendance sheets.
  • Assists Safety, Health & Environmental Manager or Director in investigating accidents, fires and near-misses and with prevention recommendations.
  • Participates in inspections made by the Federal, State or local inspectors. Sees that all violations are corrected immediately. Notifies the SH&E Director immediately when an OSHA inspector arrives.
  • Posts warning notices in all hazardous areas and enforces company and client rules and regulations.
  • Maintains a safety bulletin board.
  • Provides first aid services.
  • Maintains all records and reports involving accidents: Employer's First Report of Injury, Employer's Supplemental Report of Injury, OSHA Form 200, Weekly First Aid Report, and Monthly Accident Analysis.

Promote Customer Relations

  • Builds effective relationships with customers, design team, subcontractors, suppliers, and user groups that reflect and support company core values and meets or exceeds the customer’s expectations.
  • Actively participates in industry, client and community relations to enhance company image.

Education, Experience and Knowledge

  • B.S. in Safety & Environmental Health or related field
  • Recent graduates will be considered with 2 to 4 years' experienced preferred.
  • Adequate field experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Certification as a Safety Trained Supervisor (within 90 days) and completion of the OSHA 30 safety training required.
  • Demonstrates accurate record keeping skills.
  • Demonstrates solid customer service skills and verbal/written skills.
  • Demonstrates the ability to be a team player and function in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Demonstrates the ability to mentor/train others.
  • Demonstrates proficiency using a personal computer (PC) and company communication tools, such as email, internet, and Microsoft products (e.g., Word, Excel, Office, Outlook).

Working Conditions

  • The majority of work is completed on job sites in an office trailer or in an existing structure. Due to daily condition changes on construction projects, when employees are outside of the office trailer or structure, they must wear appropriate personal protective equipment as required by the company's safety policies and as required for weather conditions.
