Fleet Engineer, Ballyhoo Marine

Position Summary

This position will be reporting directly to the Director Of Marine Operations. This person is responsible for coordinating, providing direction, and support to the daily vessel operations and all engineering equipment. The Fleet Engineer will ensure that all technical and mechanical systems are maintained, create and execute planned/corrective maintenance, and ensure that all haul outs are streamlined and completed on-time and within budget. This position will also be required to collect and report on data metrics set forth by leadership, and be responsible for providing detailed analysis and recommendations for the health of the fleet to leadership. Currently, Ballyhoo has a fleet of 5 digital boats varying in size and a staff of over 15 captains and service technicians that will be overseen.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee and maintain systems including, but not limited to: engine machinery spaces, inboard and outboard engines, generators, and deck, following preventive maintenance programs on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
  2. Provide direct maintenance assistance fleet-wide and act as a subject matter expert on all company policies, procedures, and Emergency Response Activities.
  3. Responsible for the maintenance, operation, and repair of the fleet boats' mechanical and electrical systems, including diesel maintenance (OEM oil changes, injectors, fuel pumps, transmissions), and assisting in engine change-outs
  4. Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions, and be able to guide leadership through recommendations.
  5. Provide first-line repair and engine casualty assistance, and assist with monthly vessel maintenance.
  6. Supervise the maintenance program which includes managing MaintainX software, daily log entries, and up-to-date logs for all equipment and inventory.
  7. Procure and coordinate all resources for the execution of projects on time, within budget.
  8. Responsible for the preparation of all fleet vessels for any and all monthly, quarterly, and annual inspections, haul outs, and dry docks, while ensuring safety and pollution prevention policies and procedures are followed.
  9. Develop and standardize engineering programs, manage parts inventory, procure machinery parts and supplies, and conduct basic maintenance and casualty control training for captains and crew.
  10. Maintain the standardization of all inventory including tools, filters, and replacement parts.
  11. Assist with new vessel development and undertake occasional voyages on fleet vessels.
  12. Participate in all training as required by the company to ensure up to date knowledge, and abilities to relay to the fleet.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned by Management.
  14. Must be available on call to provide after-hours guidance and supervision to the marine fleet.

What would make YOU successful in this role?

  • Possess strong knowledge of both diesel and gas propulsion and electricity generation systems, and support systems such as fuel, pumps, and hydraulics.
  • Have a working knowledge and ability to troubleshoot, problem solve, and execute repairs as needed.
  • Extensive knowledge of shipboard and shoreside operations within the marine industry.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of regulatory and compliance maritime laws and regulations.
  • Must be familiar with engineering codes to assist in the corrective maintenance of vessels.
  • Ability to multitask, set priorities, and meet deadlines
  • Professional demeanor with all colleagues both corporate and Captain, and the occasional passenger.
  • Familiar with Google business suite (Gmail, Sheets, Docs, etc…)
  • Strong organizational skills with strategic vision and problem solving skills.
  • Strong leadership skills, combined with excellent communication skills
  • Required to be on call as needed

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or relevant degree strongly preferred
  • Diesel and outboard ASE certifications strongly preferred
  • 5 - 10 years experience in the maritime industry with a proven track record of demonstrated successful results
  • Valid driver’s license with access to a vehicle
  • Captain's license preferred
  • Possess or able to obtain a TWIC card
