Baltimore County is Hiring a Plumber I Near Baltimore, MD

Pay Schedule II, Grade H19, Regular Schedule: 40 hours per week

A vacancy exists in the Office of Budget/Finance, Division of Property Management.

Under the guidance of a journeyman level tradesperson, performs plumbing maintenance, repair, and installation work.

  • Repairs or replaces defective faucets and small pipes. 
  • Clears clogged drains. 
  • Operates sewer machines to clear sewer lines. 
  • Installs small plumbing fixtures, appliances, and equipment such as wash basins, faucets, traps, vents, and similar equipment. 
  • Assists in the repair and installation of fountains, toilets, urinals, hot water heaters, well pumps, chlorinators, and similar equipment.
  • Assists in the installation and repair of copper, black steel, galvanized steel, cast iron, and plastic pipe. 
  • Assists in the installation and maintenance of air, steam, water, sewer, and gas systems. 
  • Assists in installing main and branch sewer and water lines.
  • Uses tools and equipment of the plumbing trade. 
  • Reads and interprets blueprints. 
  • Follows safety procedures and plumbing codes.
Examples of Other Duties
  • May drive an automobile or light truck to transport workers, tools, or materials between job sites.

  • May lead and instruct lesser skilled workers.

  • Performs other related duties as required.

Two years' experience in plumbing and heating maintenance, repair, or installation.
(Related training may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.)
Licenses and Certificates

Possession of a State of Maryland Apprentice Plumber's License is required at the time of appointment.

Possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a non-commercial, class C Maryland driver's license is required at the time of appointment.
Proof of Licenses, Certifications and Education
Applicants are required to submit proof of licenses, certifications and education beyond high school to meet the required and preferred qualifications of the position. Diplomas or transcripts must show the applicant's major field of study. Copies and unofficial transcripts are acceptable.

Proof of Degree/Equivalency

EXAMINATION PROCEDURE
Applicants will be qualified based on an evaluation of their training and experience, as stated on their application, which includes answers to the supplemental questions. Applicants must state the dates and duties of past and present experience clearly and completely for evaluation purposes.

Employees in this classification are designated as Emergency/Essential and may be required to work overtime with little or no advance notice. Employees may be subject to standby duty for after-hours emergencies on a rotating basis.
Physical and Environmental Conditions
The work of this classification entails the performance of heavy physical labor including bending, stooping, climbing ladders, lifting and carrying heavy objects, and the operation of machinery, tools, and equipment. Work requires travel between work sites. Some duties require exposure to potentially hazardous conditions such as raw sewage, blood-borne pathogens, flammable and noxious gases, and electricity.

Medical Examination and Employment Background Investigation
Applicants selected for an appointment to a position in Baltimore County must successfully complete a physical examination, drug screening and employment investigation, including, but not limited to criminal background, education certification and fingerprinting checks.
