Job Description: Finance and Grants Manager

Organization Overview:

Maryland Safe Haven is dedicated to empowering TLGBQ individuals in Baltimore City. Our objectives include providing safe housing, addressing disparities, supporting transitions, promoting economic empowerment, preventing violence, advocating for rights, and fostering community education.

Position Summary:

The Finance and Grants Manager will play a pivotal role in managing the financial health and grant-related processes of Maryland Safe Haven. Reporting directly to the Director of Operations and Director of Development, this role requires a strategic thinker with a deep commitment to our mission. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing financial management, grant acquisition, and compliance, contributing to our overall goal of creating supportive and inclusive spaces for the TLGBQ community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Management (40%)

o Oversee day-to-day financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.

o Ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures.

o Manage financial audits and coordinate with external auditors.

o Provide financial insights and analysis to aid strategic decision-making.

  • Grant Management (30%)

o Lead the grants management process from identification of potential funding sources to application and compliance.

o Maintain and strengthen relationships with existing donors and funding bodies.

o Ensure timely and accurate reporting to donors as per grant agreements.

o Collaborate with program teams to align financial reporting with programmatic benchmarks.

  • Strategic Planning and Development (20%)

o Contribute to strategic planning with the leadership team to ensure financial practices align with organizational goals.

o Identify opportunities for financial optimization and resource mobilization.

o Participate in leadership meetings to provide financial perspectives on organizational strategies.

  • Team Collaboration and Support (10%)

o Work closely with the Directors of Operations and Development to integrate financial management with broader organizational objectives.

o Support program staff by providing financial training and guidance as needed.

o Foster an environment of transparency and accountability within financial operations.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in financial management and grants administration, preferably in a nonprofit setting.
  • Strong understanding of nonprofit financial compliance and grant funding mechanisms.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of Maryland Safe Haven.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with financial software and accounting systems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to engage effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
