Armed with machine learning models and custom-built data collection tools, the Data Intelligence Group (DIG) spans fundamental, quantitative, and big data initiatives. DIG collaborates with all strategies across the firm and provides insights and a robust statistical backbone that guides new ideas, investment strategies, and differentiated alpha decisions. Within DIG, BAM’s Sector Data Analysts (SDA) are a team of data analysts, data scientists, quantitative researchers, and quantamental researchers seeking unique alpha and a sustainable data competitive advantage for the firm. SDAs are responsible for collaborating with Equity PM teams to discover, integrate, evaluate, and analyze data to generate insights in support of investment strategies.

BAM is actively seeking a passionate SDA to work in partnership with Consumer portfolio managers (PMs) to design solutions to generate insights around key investment debates. A successful candidate will exhibit proficiency in research design, data collection, data processing, analysis, and communication. The candidate must also be adept in working across teams in a highly dynamic environment with a focus on client service, innovation and thought leadership.

Responsibilities:

• Work with portfolio managers to determine key investment debates in the sector
• Apply research design techniques to develop data assets to answer investment debates leveraging primary and 3rd party vendor data
• Monitor data collection, cleansing and analytics processes
• Analyze and interpret data using standard statistical tools and techniques to determine and communicate patterns or trends revealed in the data
• Evaluate datasets based on qualitative and quantitative assessment criteria
• Collaborate with data strategy team to discover new sources of information
• Collaborate with investment staff to brainstorm creative uses for data in the investment process
• Alternative data product development
• Project management, progress tracking, and reporting

Qualifications & Requirements:

• Consumer domain expertise and practiced intellectual curiosity
• Strong client service and proactive mindset
• 4 years of proven work experience as a data analyst or related role
• BS or MS in Mathematics, Finance/Economics, Computer Science, Information Management, Statistics, Engineering or Technology
• Analytical, data processing, and programming skills
• Knowledge of and proven application of statistical techniques
• Proficient in querying databases, writing reports, and presenting data (Python & SQL)
• Strong oral and written communication skills including evidenced ability to explain technical concepts to the non-technical audiences
• Experience or familiarity with any of the following systems and technologies: Python, SQL, Apache Airflow, AWS/GCE/Azure, Jupyter, Docker, Snowflake, Databricks/Spark, Tableau, Streamlit, Excel
