Banyan Community is Hiring a Director of Family and Community Engagement Near Minneapolis, MN

Position: Director of Family and Community Engagement

Employment Status: Full time position ( benefits)

Reports to: Executive Director

Primary Responsibilities: Lead, guide, and develop the Family and Community Engagement Team to ensure family and community relationships and programming that supports Banyan’s mission and strategic priorities.Work in close partnership with the Director of Youth Programs and in conjunction with the Executive Director and Leadership Team.

Leadership and Management

o Lead the planning, communication, and development a shared vision that effectively sets priorities in accordance with the strategic planning initiatives and program outcomes.

o Provide team members with the resources needed to effectively engage neighbors, advocate for families, and maintain high quality programs and services, and partner with them in these efforts

o Build, supervise, and support strategic teams of staff, volunteers, and community members to ensure effective and thriving programs that align with an asset-based model and advance a holistic mission.

o Encourage creative thinking and coach continuous improvement while referencing the performance management process to support team members in professional development and growth.

o Work collaboratively with the Leadership Team to implement the strategic plan and achieve organizational goals, and demonstrate this effort through direct services to families and the community

o Provide recommendations to the Executive Director about program development, staffing levels, budget needs, and community feedback, based on evaluations, data, and outreach.

o Oversee development & sustainability of programs to engage parents, families, neighbors & community.

o Expected to attend neighborhood and community events and meetings as necessary and beneficial. 

o Build and maintain community partnerships that share our organizational values and ensure programs are accessible, inclusive, and welcoming to all members Banyan’s service area.

o Collaborate and cross-train to ensure high-functioning teams and organizational succession planning.

Program Implementation and Outcomes

o Manage a cycle of evaluation, continuous improvement, and program outcomes by utilizing logic models, indicators, measurement tools, client database, qualitative data, and other methods.

o Develop relevant and responsive efforts and strategies to remove barriers and create opportunities for parents and families to pursue leadership, learning, enjoyment, and advocacy.

o Identify and develop adult leaders to create a resource network for families to strengthen other families, and partner with the Director of Youth Programs on recruitment and enrollment of new families.

o Implement strategies to provide guidance and support to expand and enhance the activity, connectivity, individual & collective leadership of the Lighthouse Network of block leaders in the broader community.

o Support, grow, and work alongside the parent advocacy group, Sowing the Future, to ensure parents are informed and can provide feedback and input on programming initiatives.

o Expand and enrich the development of the Community Leadership, Education and Connection Programs (CLEC) by offering workshops, classes, and training that support individual growth and adult education.

o Oversee the successful planning, organization, and facilitation of a wide range of family and community events including, but not limited to, seasonal Gatherings, Block Clubs, and National Night Out.

Administration

o Support the hiring, onboarding, evaluation, training, and modeling for direct reports.

o Ensure data validity and reliability, data policy implementation, regular data management system review, and train program team members on data entry and reporting.

o In partnership with the Executive Director and Finance Team, develop, manage, and meet program budget parameters while following finance policies and procedures for tracking expenses.

o Partner with the Director of Development & Marketing on grant opportunities, reports, and site visits in addition to developing networks and partnerships as the community-facing member of the organization

o Collaborate with colleagues and be a supportive presence in completing special projects as assigned.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Human Services or related field is required along with at least five years of experience working with diverse communities and families encountering barriers to opportunity and access, managing stress or navigating crisis. Advanced degree or training and certification in relevant field preferred.
  • Experience with neighborhood organizations, community development/organizing, and program planning.
  • Applicants who are bilingual or multilingual preferred
  • Able to build meaningful, trust-based relationships with a diverse group of youth, adults, and volunteers.
  • Interculturally competent and demonstrated experience with racial equity, inclusion, and engagement with diverse community members.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; excellent communication skills (oral, written, electronic).
  • Experience with performance evaluation measures, data collection and analysis, and qualitative surveys.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team with strong experience supervising and coaching staff and teams.
  • Experienced with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Outlook. Experience with client databases.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and good driving record.

Compensation: This is an exempt, year-round, full-time 40 hr. position with full benefits (requires day and occasional evening and/or weekend hours). Salary range $70,000-$75,000 DOQ. Healthcare premium, short-term & long-term disability, life insurance, (100% employer covered) SIMPLE IRA, cell phone reimbursement, professional development, paid holidays, vacation and personal time.
