Job Description:
Phlebotomist
The Phlebotomist performs the collection of blood and body specimens from hospital inpatients and outpatients and transports patient specimens to the laboratory.
PRN - Varied Shifts, Weekend, Call
Job Description:
  • Performs venipuncture, fingerstick and heelstick
  • Accurately collects specimens from the proper patient for the correct test
  • Makes floor rounds to pick up specimens and delivers to laboratory
  • Maintains stock for collection trays
  • Performs point of care tests and reports results to appropriate personnel
  • Has working knowledge of lab computer; prints out patient identification labels, verifies collection and receipt of specimens and results point of care tests
Requirements:
  • Completion of 12th grade (high school) or phlebotomy training program
  • Must have good written and verbal skills; must frequently work under pressure.
  • Must be able to follow instructions explicitly as not to compromise patient care.
  • Exhibits calm behavior to patients and visitors.
  • Ability to get along well with others.
  • Must adhere to medical ethics and have concern for the welfare of the patient, laboratory and institution.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification in NCA, ACA, ASPT, or ASCP is preferred
