Job Description:
Hours: 36
Shift: 1st
Status: Full Time
Vascular Thoracic Unit
This highly specialized twenty-one bed unit that provides care to high-to-intensive patients post vascular and thoracic surgery. This active, fast-paced unit cares for patients who have had carotid surgery, lower extremity bypass, aneurysm repairs, arterial-lines, AKOS, chest tubes, etc.
Job Summary
Registered nurse implements the nursing process for each assigned to his/her care regardless of age (i.e. infancy to geriatric) and is responsible for the patient's care consistent with the Kentucky Nursing Laws and organizational policies and procedures. The registered nurse promotes positive patient outcomes and the delivery of quality patient care and initiates change through active involvement in the unit-based and hospital shared governance councils while contributing to a healthy professional practice environment.
National Professional Nursing Standards serve as guidelines for nurses as they utilize critical thinking and clinical reasoning skills and exercise appropriate nursing judgment. The registered nurse collaborates with the inter-professional team to enhance patient outcomes. The registered nurse serves as a role model through actively participating in the process of continuous professional development and lifelong learning. Utilizes the Nursing Process as the framework for providing care.
Minimum Education, Training, and Experience
1. Active Kentucky License
2. BSN required except as noted:
  • Individuals hired as a Staff RN prior to October 1, 2013 are grandfathered and exempt.
  • Individuals actively employed by the system prior to October 1, 2013 are eligible for hire as a new graduate nurse without a BSN provided they enroll within 1 year of transfer and complete their BSN within 5 years of hire.
  • Experienced RNs hired after October 1, 2013 who do not hold a BSN may only be hired with the approval of the CNO and/or applicable Vice President provided the RN enrolls in a BSN program within 1 year of hire and completes the BSN within 5 years of hire.
