Position Summary: Responsible for planning, developing, and coordinating all hospital safety functions relative to the seven functional areas of the Environment of Care in conjunction with: Safety Management, Life Safety Management, Emergency Preparedness Management, Hazardous Material/Waste Management, Security Management, Medical Equipment Management, and Utility Systems Management. Serves as the hospital liaison with regulatory bodies and assigned accrediting bodies such as The Joint Commission.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
1. Formulates and implements system environment of care/safety program. Conducts and assists outside agencies in site inspections to assess program compliance.
2. Organizes and chairs the Hospital Environment of Care Committee (Safety Committee). Participates as responsible individual for the Environment of Care Manual on the Hospital Policy and Procedure Committee. Report out, as appropriate, to the hospital Process Improvement Steering Committee and to the Board, Quality Improvement. Actively participates on the Local Emergency Preparedness Committee.
3. Provides educational support to Basic Employee Orientation. Coordinates the Annual Environment of Care Fair.
4. Serves as hospital safety officer.
5. Oversees and directs the accreditation readiness program for ongoing preparedness for certification or surveys.
