Religious School Administrator Job Description

We are an innovative Reform Jewish Temple in Bergen County. The religious school administrator, manages and executes organizational, communication, project management, and office management needs of the school and supports the Director and staff as needed. The ideal candidate will be welcoming, friendly, exhibit high standards, excellent communication skills, an ability to take charge, take initiative and prioritize tasks.

Responsibilities: (these may be adjusted and vary depending upon time of year, needs and new challenges that arise):

  • Serve as the first point of contact for congregants, potential members, and visitors during school hours through answering phones, responding to email queries, greeting and directing people
  • Direct and execute communications, project and office management needs of the school and works collaboratively with the Director and teaching staff to address program needs.
  • Develop and implement school office processes and procedures.
  • Manage school Office: track and submit faculty attendance, maintain supply inventories, place orders, coordinate mailings, generate annual calendars, and execute assorted clerical tasks as assigned by the Director
  • Serve as school registrar: create and track registration forms, vaccination, allergy and pertinent student information, update the database, coordinate with the billing department, update contact information, produce and maintain accurate attendance and class lists, etc.
  • Help create and distribute publicity and informational material for programming and events.
  • Oversee school daily and special event logistics including attendee tracking and fee collection, snack window/cash box, snack and meal ordering publicity, food, supplies, and room set-up coordination., supplies, and room set-up.
  • Assist with coordinating the annual assignment, communication, information collection and distribution about various lifecycle events and holidays on a yearly basis.
  • Work with and communicate directly and compassionately with a range of stakeholders including students, parents, teachers, clergy, temple office staff, facilities staff, and other congregations while maintaining strict confidentiality.
  • Work effectively with a diverse team of volunteers who bring different skills and perspectives to bear on our common congregational goals.
  • Assist with real time student care and management during school hours as needed e.g. practice safety drills, distribution of band aids, ice packs, walking with a student from class, step into the classroom to assist, calling parents etc.
  • Provide support to our enrichment youth activities advisor and program when appropriate.
  • Assist the Office Manager with billing for school families.
  • Attend ALL staff Training (CPR, EPI Pen, Security etc.) and school staff meetings.
  • Other responsibilities may arise or change as the position grows and develops.

Acquire proficiency in Playground, Shul Cloud, Microsoft Teams

Experience working with children and families a plus.

Bachelor’s Degree

Hours:

Approximately 30 hours per week (number of hours will vary when school is and is not in session). This is a year-round position (approx. 45 weeks) with flexibility during the summer months depending on projects and needs.

Required during weeks that school is in session (September-May): Tuesday/Wednesday 3:00 pm-7:00 pm and Sunday mornings 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

Other day/hours are flexible to total 33 hours weekly.

An example of a typical work week while school is in session: = 30 hours per week

Monday: 9:00am-3:00 pm

Tuesday/Wednesday: 12:00 pm -7:00 pm

Friday: 9:00 am-4:00 pm

Sunday 9:00 am-12:00 pm

An example of a typical work week while school is NOT in session:

Monday-Friday 9:00 am-3:00 pm = 30 hours per week.

Compensation: This is an hourly, non-exempt position that pays $22-25 per hour BOE.

Reports to the School Director.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $23.00 - $25.00 per hour
