Barton Community College is Hiring a Central Kansas Upward Bound Academic Coordinator Near Great Bend, KS

Position Description: Will participate in planning, development, implementation and delivery of curriculum of all new/revised program services. Will also administer assessments, develop Student Education Plans, provide academic advisement, and coordinate tutoring at target high schools. Note: This position is either completely or partially grant funded. Employment contingent upon continued grant funding. This position also serves as a Campus Safety Authority as required by federal law in the Clery Act. Position Responsibilities: 49.00% -
Responsibilities for Participants:
1. Advise eligible participants in academic areas of need.
2. Plan, implement, and facilitate activities that support the project objectives and meet the needs of the participants.
3. Develop networks with PSEI contacts including Financial Aid Officers, Admission Officers, support services personnel, and others who are critical to participant application, enrollment, and attendance.
4. Assist participants with college selection, college application, financial aid and scholarship application processes to reach the goal of enrollment and attendance at a PSEI.
5. Monitor weekly contact with participants and maintain student progress throughout the program including participation in academic, social and cultural activities.
6. Develop curriculum for student academic development and personal growth.
7. Deliver workshops for student academic development and personal growth.
8. Monitor participants' grades, create an individual education plan for each student facilitating improvements in areas such as GPA and ACT scores.
9. Assist with student recruitment and selection, including application review, ranking and interviews.
10. Chaperone and create program activities and the six-week residential summer session (including some evening, weekend, and over-night trips).
11. Develop and monitor tutoring program and curriculum, including Tutor.com software

Responsibilities for Summer Program:
1. Participate in the planning, implementation, and supervision of the six-week summer program.
2. Recruit, interview, train, and supervise summer staff including Instructors, Resident Assistants.
3. Chaperone program activities and the six-week residential summer session (including some evening, weekend, and over-night trips) 10.00% -
Consulting Tasks:
1. Consult with CKUB Director regarding program goals/objectives primarily relating to improving services of project participants.
2. Consult with PSEI contacts to meet participant needs.
3. Consult with faculty and administration at target high schools regarding participants' needs 5.00% - Write and submit reports as needed and requested.
5.00% - Design and create Upward Bound informational material including but not limited to: brochures, posters, and all social media accounts - Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Band and others. 5.00% - Performs other duties as needed or assigned.
Expectations: Develop and direct both academic and summer curricular and co-curricular programs for 57 eligible Central Kansas high school participants in accordance with the approved grant proposal and federal legislation and regulations.
Demonstrate commitment to the highest ethical standards of professional practice, as well as personal and professional integrity.
Maintain accurate records of participant services and contacts.
Facilitate services to participants to help them transition to post-secondary options successfully.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Experience - Two years to five years of similar or related experience.
Preference given to individuals who have succeeded in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting the projects target population.
Education -
A Bachelor's degree. Interpersonal Skills - A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and/or can be of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating or influencing others. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary.
Other Skills - Bachelor's degree required, Master's preferred, in education, counseling, or related field.
Physical Requirements: Job may require lifting light weight objects (1 to 10 pounds) with no repetitive bending or stooping. Occasionally lift average weight objects (1 to 10 pounds). Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office or classroom. Wages/Other:
The salary range for this position is $44,007.60 to $49,777.00.

Seeks applications for an Academic Coordinator for the Central Kansas Upward Bound (TRIO) Program. This full-time replacement position is responsible to the Program Director to support participants in completing secondary and post-secondary education.
