Basic Commerce and Industries, Inc. (BCI) has an immediate opening for a full-time mid-level Systems Engineer / Navy Subject Matter Expert (SME) in support of the Bridge Integration and Steering and Propulsion Control Systems for Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD). BCI's areas of expertise include Human Systems Integration/Human Factors Engineering, Interoperability, Training, Operational Systems Safety, and Weapon & Combat Systems Engineering. BCI's work force of employees and consultants includes human factors engineers, operational engineers and former naval officers and enlisted subject matter experts.
This position has the potential to be located in any fleet concentration center or other remote locations.

Experience Required:
Successful candidates must have a minimum of 10-15 years US Navy surface warfare experience gained while on active duty senior enlisted or officer, serving on carriers, DDGs, CGs, LCS, large deck or smaller amphibious ships. Specialized experience is required in surface ship bridge operations. Experience with the design, evaluation, or training of bridge systems or steering and propulsion control systems is preferred. A formal degree supporting systems engineering, software engineering or significant analysis experience is a plus.
Description of Duties:
Provide operational expertise to the design, integration, and evaluation of ship bridge systems and arrangements. Support communication and scheduling with individual surface ships for the application of lighting mitigations and underway events. Track status of mitigation applications and lighting installations across multiple classes of surface ships to ensure application and installation to all required platforms. Contribute to the requirements and design of shipboard systems through development and validation of requirements, user feedback and assessments, and design iterations. Communicate and collaborate with program offices, design and integration agents, training representatives, and vendors to support the improvement of fielded systems.
Periodic visits to system developer or test sites and surface navy fleet concentration areas will be required, which is expected to require a travel rate between 10% and 20%.
Applicants must be US citizens. A current Secret or Top Secret DoD security clearance is strongly desired. Applicants will be subjected to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
