What You'll DoUnder the supervision of the Point-of-Care Laboratory Services Supervisor, the Clinical Laboratory Technologist - Point of Care (POC) will provide technical oversight of POCT and work collaboratively with hospital personnel, providers, and Clinical Pathology in the validation, training, implementation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and execution of process improvement of authorized POCT throughout Bassett Healthcare Network. Develops and maintains a quality management system for POCT that assures quality and meets regulatory requirements. The Clinical Laboratory Technologist - Point of Care (POC) coordinates/participates in required method comparisons, instrument validations, linearity checks, end user training, and competency assessments. The Clinical Laboratory Technologist - Point of Care
(POC) develops, writes, and revises Bassett Healthcare Network policies and procedures in compliance with NYSDOH and DNV regulatory requirements. Clinical Laboratory Technologist - Point of Care (POC) serves as technical consultant to help troubleshoot moderate and waived POC testing and computer issues. Trains staff in POC testing and assures staff maintain annual competency. Performs site visits to ensure sites are meeting POC regulatory requirements. Manages supply chain for POC testing supplies. Maintains POC testing equipment and instruments Maintains organized records of training, competency, site visits, and technical issues. Remains up to date on POC regulations, manufacturer’s instructions, and best practices. Builds and maintains positive relationships with POC testing sites leadership and staff. Supports and/or leads improvement projects to optimize quality and efficiency. May include other duties as assigned.
  • Works independently to oversee and coordinate technical functions and activities of the technical area while ensuring adherence to regulations and service to laboratory customers. Ensures accuracy and timeliness of daily work.
  • Assists with result review for the clinical lab tests performed over the past 24 hours as defined by the technical section and shift in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Prioritizes workflow on an ongoing basis in order to maintain established turnaround times, adjusting staff as necessary to assure urgent patient needs are met
  • Completes the weekly/weekend section schedule and assignments. Assesses and responds to workload regularly so as to ensure that the shift gets assistance when they need it
  • Ensures follow-up has occurred for section related items in the administrative communication book and section specific communication books or from daily huddles
  • Is self-directed. Prioritizes tasks without intervention from the POC supervisor.
  • Sets an example in work performance and team building, concern for patients and co-workers by maintaining a positive interpersonal approach and demeanor.
  • Works directly with the POC Supervisor to assure compliance with accrediting and regulatory agency standards
  • Assists the POC Supervisor with the development of proposals for improved efficiency, safety and performance improvement initiatives offering suggestions with follow through.
  • Performs and verifies (reports) laboratory tests and/or prepares products for transfusion on acceptable specimens to obtain accurate data in accordance with established procedures and protocols and in a timely manner.
  • Performs quality control (QC), and proficiency testing (PT) as assigned.
  • Prepares all monthly QC and QA documentation for POC Supervisor review.
  • Establishes regular site visits to assigned Bassett POC testing sites to meet regulatory requirements (QC and PT review) as well as customer needs and to assure quality testing.
  • Assists with training, competency, and proficiency programs of Bassett personnel involved in POC testing for staff to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Distributes Point of Care supplies, maintaining accurate records of lot numbers, expiration dates, and assure charges are submitted as appropriate.
  • Maintains laboratory equipment, instruments, reagents and/or supplies and documentation required in performance of job responsibilities.
  • Follows all institution and department policies and procedures.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work environment.
  • Review work of students, and/or nursing staff as assigned.
  • Maintains laboratory equipment, instruments, reagents and/or supplies required in performance of job responsibilities, including weekly/monthly inventory management duties
  • Follows all institution and department policies and procedures.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work environment.
  • Assists with the training of new staff assigned by POC Supervisor. Gathers data for special projects to support the quality initiatives of the department.
  • Any Clinical Laboratory Technologist meeting NYSDOH qualifications of supervisor (part 58 of 10 NYCR, section 1.4) may be required to perform supervisory functions in the absence of the regular supervisor.
  • Performs similar or related duties within their scope of practice as assigned.
  • Coordinates all laboratory testing outside the main laboratory, within the Bassett Laboratory Network and according to regulations
EducationWhat we need from you
  • 4 Year / Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science/Medical Technology, Chemical, Physical or Biological Sciences, required
  • Master's Degree in Chemical, Physical or Biological Sciences, preferred
Experience
  • Minimum 1 year experience in standard laboratory methodologies (work or school), required
  • Minimum 1 year expereince in Point of Care Testing (POCT), preferred
License/ Certification
  • Clinical Laboratory Technician or Technologist License, required

Pay RangeSalary is based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and fair market evaluation based on industry standards. The above compensation range represents a good faith belief of the compensation range by Bassett Healthcare Network, and its entities and affiliates, at the time of this posting or advertisement.
