Entry Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Have met formal academic assessment, associate's degree, or two years of study at an institution of higher learning\*
  • Valid Texas educational aide certificate
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to work well with children

  • Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics
Basic Function & ResponsibilityProvide instructional assistance to students under the direct supervision of a certified teacher. Assist in preparing, conducting, and managing of classroom activities.
Characteristic Duties & Responsibilities**Instructional Support**
  • Provide instruction to students under the direction of teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
  • Help teachers in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
  • Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
  • Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
  • Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Help teachers keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
  • Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
**Student Management**
  • Help supervise students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom, including lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
  • Keep teachers informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
**Professional Effectiveness**
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
  • Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.
  • Follow district policies and procedures pertaining to the job assignment.

Physical & Mental Demands
  • **Tools/Equipment Used** : Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment; _[P.E. teachers: automated external defibrillator (AED)]_
  • **Posture:** Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
  • **Motion:** Frequent walking
  • **Lifting:** Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move textbooks and classroom equipment.
  • **Environment:** Work inside, may work outside; regular exposure to noise
  • **Mental Demands:** Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours
