Title: Admission Counselor
Position Purpose:
Guided by the tenets of the Bates Mission Statement, the Admission Counselor serves as a member of the Admission team to recruit, admit, and enroll an academically talented and diverse class of students. The position will assist with various recruitment projects assigned according to previous experiences and departmental needs. Works closely with deans, counselors, operations team, campus partners, and secondary school counselors.
Job Duties:

• Represent Bates at in-person and virtual high school visits, college fairs, and other off- and on-campus recruiting events.
• Manage geographic territories as assigned; coordinate 4 to 6 weeks of in-person and virtual travel per year; develop an annual recruitment plan and evaluate effectiveness of each activity; recommend improvements and changes in strategy as appropriate.
• Work in pairs or as part of a team to evaluate first-year and transfer applications.
• Lead on-campus and virtual information sessions and counsel families through the admission and financial aid process.
• Engage with key constituents such as alumni, current students, high school counselors, and community-based organizations and respond to concerns or inquiries from prospective students, parents, college/guidance counselors, coaches, alumni/ae, and other constituents.
• Collaborate with colleagues within Admission and across the college (i.e. Student Financial Services, Communications, Harward Center, Purposeful Work, Office of Intercultural Education, Athletics, etc).
• Attend designated in-person/virtual conferences or other professional development activities.
• Other duties as assigned by the Director of Admission or the Vice President of Enrollment & Dean of Admission and Financial Aid.
• Serve on multiple office teams, which could include any combination of the following:

Communications Team:
A member of group that partners with Bates Communications & Marketing (BCM) to strategically develop, execute, maintain, refine, and expand a multi-layered (print, email, social media, video) communication plan for multiple constituents (prospects, inquirers, applicants, admits, enrolls, parents, and counselors.)
Events Team:
Organizes all on-campus programs (Summer Open Houses (2), Fall Open House, Prologue to Bates (2), BBC Counselor Tour, MLK Day, Mount David Summit, Admitted Student Receptions (2), and Maine Day/Junior Open House.)
Students in Admission (SIA) Team:
Oversee all student recruitment efforts on campus (tours, senior fellows, summer interns, event ambassadors); assist in hiring, training, and supervising all student workers; approve student worker timesheets; update training manuals; provide vision and direction of all student outreach.
Yield Team:
Collaborate with the Admission Events, Communications, Alumni in Admission, and Students in Admission teams to develop and implement a multi-layered yield plan that incorporates on- and off-campus events; email, print, social media communication; and outreach from students, staff, faculty, and alumni.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education

• Bachelor's Degree required.
• Valid driver's license required.

Experience

• 0-1 year of experience (after graduating from college) in admission or in a student/customer service, academic, and/or non-profit setting is preferred but not required.
• Familiarity with the academic environment and higher education, preferably the liberal arts.

Skills and Knowledge

• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and to serving the needs of a culturally and educationally diverse and inclusive
  community with diplomacy and tact.
• Excellent communication (written, verbal, and presentation) skills. Experience in digital/video media is a plus, but not required.
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
• Impeccable organizational (time, task, project management) skills and ability to coordinate resources and staff within the college community.
• Strong interpersonal skills (a sense of humor is a plus) with ability to develop and maintain collegial relationships. Must approach work with
  collaboration and nimbleness.
• Genuine curiosity about the world, particularly higher education and issues of access, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
• Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Google Suite, Microsoft Office).
• Basic data management system and/or CRM proficiency (e.g. Slate) is preferred, but not required.
• Willingness and ability to learn additional technology applications and systems as needed.
• Ability and willingness to travel (by air, bus, car, or train) domestically for four to six weeks, concentrated in the fall and spring.
• Ability and willingness to work weekends, evenings and other non-traditional schedules.
• Personal commitment to excellence and the mission of a selective liberal arts college.
