Bates Technical College is Hiring an EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION INSTRUCTOR Near Tacoma, WA

The Childcare-Early Education Instructor is responsible for providing competency-based training to students in a manner that prepares successful program graduates for careers as early education specialists or childcare teachers and provides continuing education for individuals employed in the field. 
Priority consideration will be given to applicant's who apply by August 18, 2024.Essential Functions
  • Use effective competency-based teaching techniques, instructional materials, and multimedia support
  • Conduct the classroom and laboratory projects to prepare the students in current related and practical skills essential for childcare occupations
  • Develop course curriculum, including performance objectives, competencies, and content by analyzing industry needs in childcare occupations 
  • Counsel and guide students in interpersonal relationships, career goals, and responsible work habits
  • Work with on-site Childcare and ECEAP Center to provide a quality, laboratory-style learning experience for students and children 
  • Participate actively and collaboratively in student recruitment
  • Work with staff, instructors, and support services personnel to ensure a cohesive learning environment
  • Assist the College in the recruitment and retention of students and promotion of the program
  • Establish and maintain two-year degree program accreditation through National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) 
  • Actively contribute to and participate in college-wide activities in support of regional accreditation and state and federal requirements 
  • Assist students in job placement efforts 
  • Ensure instruction is consistent with current industry standards 
  • Lead efforts to develop and retain an advisory committee that supports program goals and objectives and meets state board guidelines
  • Ensure appropriate safety practices are used at all times, students are knowledgeable of safety techniques, and all equipment is maintained in safe working condition 
  • Requisition supplies and equipment to ensure proper inventory to meet program needs 
  • Participate on committees, task forces, and councils in support of department and college goals and objectives 
  • Assist with the preparation of grant or funding requests as needed
  • Prepare reports as needed 
  • Deliver classroom management to maintain suitable learning environment by responding appropriately to student conduct/problems and provide assistance in solving them in accordance with college procedures. 
  • Provide budget management which includes requisition and maintenance control of and safeguard inventories of equipment and supplies assigned to the program. 
Non-Essential/Other Functions
  • Actively contribute to and participate in college-wide activities in support of regional accreditation and state and federal requirements. 
  • Support College student achievement practices to ensure student retention, completion, and progression
  • Participate actively and collaboratively with College Student Services and program advisory committees to support students' access to employment opportunities and maintain student job placement records.
  • Accountable for keeping personal development up-to-date; adding skills and knowledge through courses that may be available through the Bates Technical College courses, professional development committees, etc.
  • Participate actively and collaboratively on committees for the college as needed, including but not limited to recruitment, college councils, etc.

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Conditions of Employment
  • Once an offer of employment is made, a background check, including criminal record history, will be conducted.   • This position is required to work on campus.
  • This position has been designated as a bargaining unit position represented by Bates Technical College's local union.
  • Following the date of hire, all full-time faculty and all part-time faculty working two-thirds of a full-time load for more than three quarters (20 hours per week) must obtain a Professional-Technical Education Certificate within 30 working days. 
  • Maintain First Aid and CPR certification
  • Maintain certification and credentialing per program and Bates Technical College accreditation standards.
  • Valid Washington State Driver’s License and reliable vehicle for reimbursable travel.
Minimum Qualifications 
  • Graduate degree in early childhood education or related field.
  • Must communicate in English both verbally and in writing.
Allowable Substitution 
If necessary, alternative combinations of education and experience may be evaluated by the Human Resources Office for comparability. 
Preferred Qualifications 
  • Five (5) years of experience in Early Childhood Education.
  • Online course development/instruction experience.
