Bates Technical College is Hiring an ESL PROGRAM COORDINATOR AND INSTRUCTOR Near Yakima, WA

BATES TECHNICAL COLLEGE ESL Program Coordinator and Instructor position provides instructional programming in various levels of English as a Second Language, including Beginner Levels (36, 37, 47, 48, 57, 58), Advanced Levels (67, 68, 77, 78, 87, 88) and Mixed Levels (all levels), in four competency areas: Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking. This position also provides programming for supporting courses such as ESL Educational Interviewing (ESL 35). The position serves as the lead ESL program instructor and works closely with the ESL faculty, staff, and Deans to develop quarterly instruction schedules, assist with curriculum adoption and implementation, provide student intake services, including pre-and post CASAS testing and record entry. This role is also responsible to coordinate with Vocational Counselors, Technical High School Advisors and the ORIA-LEP Grant Coordinator to develop educational plans for students and ensuring they have the necessary tools to succeed in the ESL program. This faculty also serves as the ESL department CASAS Cadre, and manages all ESL student WABERS reports for SBCTC BEdA data collecting and analysis. Depending upon program need and program student population, the ESL instructor may teach multiple ESL courses. The instruction duties can be live in-person classroom, online, and hybrid courses. The instructor will need to have a strong familiarity with CANVAS, or any future web based educational platform.Non-tenure-track position. Schedule is 214 days a year, 7 hours a day. The pay range posted is the full potential scale for his position. Pay at the top of this scale is earned through longevity. Annual Salary is based on 214, 7-hour workdays per year. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Essential Duties Student Advising and RegistrationHas established drop-in office hours to increase ease of access for non-native English speakersSchedules and provides weekly ESL intake testingDevelops materials to help students understand their course options and outcome goalsMaintains student WABERS and curriculum records (i.e. student progress, attendance, instructional syllabi, course curriculum and plans, and grades for the ESL Department)Develops quarterly instruction schedules, assists with curriculum adoption and implementation with ESL department faculty and DeanProvides career couseling for students wanting to transition to other training programs or directly into the workforceProvide information to improve student learning outcomes including but not limited to Canvas login procedure, class dates and time, and tuition and tuition waiver policies.Promote relationships with partner school districts and other community resources to maintain and expand this vibrant programOrients students to application and registration process Registers and enrolls studentsHelps students to access student ID, class schedule, and official or unofficial transcript Facilitates processing withdrawals and transfers as neededAssessmentServes as the ESL department CASAS CadreCreates and maintains CASAS testing session templates and databasesCreates and trains other ESL faculty on the administration of in-house Writing and Speaking assessmentsMaintains secure database of assessment scores, pre- and post, and tracks level gainsAdministers testing services to students and provides CASAS pre- and post-testing for the ESL departmentProvides training to ESL staff/faculty for test proctoring certificationMaintains student testing records in WABERS/TopsPro State Board/WABERS Data Quality ReportingPrepares required State and Institutional ESL data quality reports on a quarterly and annual basisEvaluates data in WABERS and reports to dean on program effectivenessUses WABERS data to implement program changes and create program improvement plans (annual DPI reports)Participates in State Board BEDA quarterly trainings and shares information with staffImplements curriculum and testing changes per State Board guidelinesRegularly tracks ESL program outcomes such as program completions, and transition data like employment and transition to college degree programs InstructionTeaches assigned courses and provides high quality instruction in a variety of modalities, including in-person/live classroom, hybrid, and onlineProvides individual and small group instruction to students in both a classroom and computer lab settingAdequately prepares all course materials and lessonsProvides each student with clear course expectations, evaluations and timelines and provides a standardized syllabusProvides interesting and relevant assignments for students that demonstrate learning outcomes in a real-life settingEffectively uses available technology resources to enhance student access to knowledge and information, and effectively uses technology to deliver instructional contentProcesses grades in a timely mannerProgram Recruitment and Retention EffortsSupports College student achievement practices, to ensure student retention, completion, and progressionResponds to student questions on a timely basis.Participates actively and collaboratively in student recruitment within and outside of Bates Technical CollegeCommunicates effectively and professionally with a diverse population of colleagues and students to provide continuing enrollment services for ESL programs.Supervisory ResponsibilitiesThis position has no supervisory responsibilities.Conditions of EmploymentOnce offer of employment is made, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not preclude employment but will be contingent in determining the employee's suitability and competence to continue to perform in the position.This position is required to work on campus, at affiliated childcare centers and cooperative preschools. This position has been designated as a bargaining unit position represented by Bates Technical College local union.Following date of hire, all full-time faculty and all part-time faculty working two-thirds of a full-time load for more than three quarters (20 hours per week) must obtain. Professional-Technical Education Certificate within 30 working days.Valid Washington State Driver’s License.Personal vehicle required for work.
