Job Title: Security Lead
Supervised by: Facilities Services Manager
Job Type: Full-Time
Job Summary:
Support Bath Community Hospital’s hallmarks of service excellence and quality in all job responsibilities. The Security Lead is responsible for contributing to the safety and security of building grounds, employees, their valuables, supplies, and equipment by performing a variety of security measures at Bath Community Hospital.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Consults and keeps the responsible manager informed of all problems, needs, and activities on their shift.
  • Maintains a keen sense of awareness by observing and patrolling a safe environment for patients, employees, students, and visitors.
  • Checks assigned areas for unauthorized or suspicious persons, malfunctioning equipment, fire or safety hazards, and unlawful situations. Notifies authorities to report criminal activity or behavior.
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate daily/weekly logs and reports as required.
  • Ensures that buildings and areas are locked and unlocked as required.
  • Responds to non-emergency calls for assistance, fire and burglary alarms, and backs up police officers as needed. Provides assistance with medical holds and other tasks as necessary.
  • Controls parking areas and enforces parking regulations, provides motorist assistance, and gives direction for customer parking.
  • Coordinates and works with local law enforcement agencies involving Bath Community Hospital.
  • Promotes a culture of excellence and quality service through teamwork, respectful communication, maintenance of a professional environment, partnership with those we serve, and anticipation of patient/customer needs.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of patient and environmental safety.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of appropriate infection control guidelines and uses appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Consistently delivers the best in customer service and patient care. Demonstrates respect, dignity, kindness, and empathy in each encounter with patients, families, visitors, and other employees.
  • Supervises security employees to ensure compliance with processes and policies.
  • Assigns and schedules security employees for 24/7 coverage.
  • Acts as a liaison between the Hospital and outside law enforcement agencies.
  • Ensures all daily reports are completed and delivered to the administrative assistant.
  • Reports to administration any security incidents and plans of action.
  • Due to fluctuating demands, may perform a variety of functions, including tasks outside the scheduled shift or other duties as needed.
  • Participates in required and elective educational activities to develop and maintain skills and completes them in a timely manner.
  • Attends department and hospital meetings as required.
  • Complies with all BCH policies and procedures, including professional licensure criteria in accordance with local, state, and federal guidelines.
Professional Requirements:
  • Completes annual educational requirements and maintains certification.
  • Ensures confidentiality of patient information.
  • Attends at least six staff meetings and reads, initials, and returns all monthly staff meeting minutes.
Job Requirements:
  • Communicates with individuals inside or outside the organization, such as other leads, and may work with outside vendors.
  • Makes decisions based on confidential information and appropriately shares information in the performance of the job.
  • Suggests cost containment initiatives in the immediate work unit/department.
  • May be exposed to seasonal environmental conditions or cramped workspaces, infectious diseases, and biohazardous materials, including blood and bodily fluids.
  • Work is often fast-paced, requiring use of prioritization skills, and may involve prolonged standing, walking, and some exposure to danger when responding to alarms and other emergency situations.
  • Employee must provide their own transportation and may occasionally work different shifts, overtime, or assist in special functions.
  • Provide own firearm and hollow point ammo (caliber 9mm, 38, 40, 45).
Education/Experience/Certifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent education (preferred)
  • Three to five years of police or security officer experience (preferred)
  • Must possess a valid Virginia driver's license (required)
  • Maintains Dept of Justice or equivalent training to be armed (required)
Skills:
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Effective interpersonal communication and teamwork skills.
  • Knowledge and training in HIPAA.
Physical Demands:
  • Prolonged standing and walking.
  • Occasional heavy lifting.
  • Exposure to various physical demands such as bending, stretching, stooping, or pushing.
  • May require lifting up to 100 pounds.
Work Environment:
  • Exposure to indoor and outdoor environments, with potential temperature fluctuations.
  • Use of personal protective equipment is required.
  • Occasional exposure to biological, mechanical, electrical, or chemical hazards.
