Baxter Brewing Company is Hiring a Cellar Team Member Near Lewiston, ME

Job Overview

Our Cellar Team Members work with the brewing operations team to fulfill customer demand for Baxter’s craft beers. Cellar Team Members work regularly scheduled shifts in the brewery and help to ensure that all beer produced meet Baxter’s high-quality standards. The ideal candidate for the Cellar Team Member can work an 8–10-hour shift on their feet in a physically demanding work environment. They are proactive and can collaborate with co-workers of all levels to achieve production goals. They are detail oriented but can be flexible when changes occur.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Keep a safe working environment in the brewery for employees, guests, and self.
  • Safely operate GEA Centrifuge and lenticular filter.
  • Analyze conditioned and bright beer to ensure it meets packaging specifications.
  • Sample each batch during brewing, fermentation and packaging to ensure quality and adherence to recipe and quality standards.
  • Always maintain a clean and organized workspace.
  • Ensure scheduled work is completed and meets quality standards.
  • Work with Quality Control to obtain and test samples for the laboratory.
  • Cleaning/sanitation cycles on tanks, brew day preparation, part cleaning (breakdown and rebuild of tanks) and other mechanical operations daily.
  • Complete brewery cellaring processes such as daily fermentation logs, cleaning and sanitation logs, dry hops.
  • Work with our task management systems to track and maintain quality data, complete daily checklists, and accurately track inventory.
  • Maintain quality standards during carbonation and brite tank preparation.
  • Yeast harvest and management as assigned.
  • Adhere to and help refine established standard operating procedures.
  • Execute transfers and CIPs based on a production timeline.
  • Communicate and coordinate across, brewing, packaging, lab, cellar and management teams in order to keep workflow organized, running on time, and able to meet production.
  • Produce quality wort according to SOPs by hitting target gravities, IBUs, colors and volumes, as well as other metrics.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to safely operate a centrifuge and lenticular filter
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 products.
  • Experience with Ekos brewery management software is a plus.
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written.

Desired Minimum Qualifications

  • A formal brewing education or at least 2 years of cellar/brewery experience is required.
  • Qualified individuals are detail-oriented, collaborative, growth-focused, and self-motivated. Our team is hard working and respectful of others. You should be as well.
  • A positive attitude, with a willingness to learn and collaborate in a team driven environment.
  • Available to potentially work early morning or late afternoon shifts during increased production schedules.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to repeatedly lift objects up to 55 pounds and move objects up to 150 pounds
  • Must be able to work for extended periods standing in hot, cold, wet, loud conditions.
