SUMMARY: The retort operator is responsible for the overall operation, monitoring and accounting of the plant Stock Rotomats through performance of the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Properly loads and unloads, through the help of assistant, the three plant retorts with loaded retort baskets. Assures the retort controllers will run the program providing the proper cook to the product being run. Is responsible for attachment of blank temperature control charts to the temperature controllers at the start of each processing day. Once the retort is loaded, initialize the specific retort cook program through the controller keypad. Monitors all programmed cooker and cooler functions and records monitoring, temperatures and time at specific points throughout cooking and cooling cycles through strict record keeping procedures. Notifies supervisors and mechanics of any perceived malfunction. Keep accurate records of numbers of units processed throughout each particular day and/or product run. Tests chlorine levels of retort process waters.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

No prior experience or training needed. Requires an adequate training period to develop skills necessary to perform job.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and comprehend simple and some complex instructions and memos. Have the ability to write simple correspondence and provide accurate record keeping. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations to other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add and subtract two and three digit numbers and to multiply and divide. Ability to perform these operations using units time

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Have the ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
