Bay Mills Indian Community is Hiring a Project Coordinator Near Brimley, MI

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position will determine, develop, coordinate, and administer culturally sensitive health and wellness prevention strategies for Native American children and groups living in the Bay Mills Indian Community. Personnel is responsible for implementing specific policy, systems, prevention, and environmental strategies defined by CDC funding.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Recognizes and is sensitive to the cultural dimension inherent in the practice of health education in Native American communities.
  2. Actively oversee all work plan activities during their planning, development, implementation, and evaluation phases.
  3. Has contact with Health Program staff, Program Directors, Division Directors, Board of Directors, a variety of community agencies, and the community at large.
  4. Identify and implement best practice policies, systems, and environmental strategies proven to prevent disease including the risk factors of poor nutrition, physical inactivity, and commercial tobacco use.
  5. Employ effective public health strategies such as changes to the social and physical environments; health promotion, public education and information; media and other communication strategies; technological advances; system improvements and data collection strategies.
  6. Work with tribal member’s school, partners, and decision makers to prevent and reduce youth commercial tobacco use, methanol tobacco use, vaping; Increase awareness of commercial tobacco cessation and support among youth
  7. Maintains basic reference library, educational materials, and audio-visual aids as resources allow.
  8. Develops and/or identifies, assists in purchasing and distributing health education materials to the Health Center, Boys and Girls Clubs, and Area Schools.
  9. Provides health education in-service training for staff, as needed.
  10. Responsible for adhering to all subcontract requirements, such as managing budget, completing project work-plan, participating in required ITCM (Inter-tribal Council of Michigan) meetings/ conference calls, as well as completing all evaluation, reporting, and dissemination requirements.
  11. Obtain Market Manager certification and process EBT machine and food assistance payments.
  12. Utilizes and incorporates professional standards of practice criteria and guidelines into program development, implementation, and evaluation. Prepares and submits monthly reports in a timely manner.
  13. Responsible for knowledge of and adherence to health center policies, including those on safety and infection control.
  14. Must attend all mandatory trainings designated through Human Resources Department and/or Department Director
  15. Other duties may be assigned within the scope and complexity of this position’s essential functions.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly walking, standing and must bend, squat, climb, crouch, kneel, and push/pull. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds while frequently lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds. The employee is regularly exposed to dust, dirt, and other debris found in an outdoor environment. Working conditions include constant exposure to weather, extreme heat/cold, wet/humidity, noise and air quality. Some of the employee’s work is completed under normal office conditions in the Community Health Department.

 POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Bachelor of Science degree in Community or School Health Education, Health Promotion, or closely related health field required.
  2. Minimum of one years’ experience implementing and evaluating health education and chronic disease prevention programs to include commercial tobacco cessation and prevention, physical activity, and stress management programs for youth and adults.
  3. Sensitive to the cultural dimension inherent in the practice of health education in Native American communities.
  4. Experience in database and accounting software preferred.
  5. Must have excellent program management, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  6. Must maintain strict client confidentiality protocol as defined by program policy.
  7. Grant administration experience, including data collection, budget management, and writing workplans, is preferred.
  8. Must have reliable transportation and valid Michigan Driver’s License with an excellent driving record.
  9. Must be able to travel when required.
  10. Must be able to work a flexible schedule; such as evenings and weekends.
  11. Must have an excellent past work history and attendance record.
  12. Will be required to undergo and successfully pass all background checks.
  13. Must maintain a good moral character standing.
  14. To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each function listed under the essential functions and physical demands categories of this position description.
