General Summary:
Plans, facilitates, coordinates, and evaluates Emergency Medicine and Observation Medicine quality programs including development of protocols, policies, and clinical guidelines. Collaborates with Chair, Senior Director, and Emergency Department medical and operational leaders on evaluating overall activities and commitment to high reliability relating to the care of emergency medicine and observation unit patients.
Assists in the implementation, coordination, assessment, evaluation and development of Bayhealths Patient Safety and Performance Improvement program within the Department of Emergency Medicine. Supervises collection, review, and analysis of quality data to identify opportunities for improvement. Applies, teaches, and skillfully uses techniques for process improvement, outcomes and process measures and quality improvement Identifies problematic issues related to performance improvement projects, determines reasons and actions to resolve. Communicates corrective action plan to interested parties and follows up to determine current status.
Responsibilities:
1. Assists with planning and implementation of Bayhealths Performance Improvement program, focused on Bayhealth Emergency Medicine and Observation Medicine
2. Acts as liaison and consultant to and between Emergency/Observation Medicine and Bayhealth Quality, Safety, and Continuous Improvement
3. Work collaboratively with all departmental leadership and clinical staff to promote a culture of safety within a high reliability organization.
4. Collaborate with departmental leadership to determine educational needs.
5. Provides data management, including querying various databases, aggregating/analyzing data, identifying improvement opportunities.
6. Review all variance incident reports, escalate concerns and collaborates with department leadership for follow up.
7. Supervise and prepare Performance Improvement reports for data presentation
8. Manage and coordinate multi-disciplinary and inter-unit patient care problem solving
9. Collaborate with physicians, nursing, and all ancillary personnel to provide quality care for Emergency/Observation patients
10. Collaborate with Risk Management and Process Improvement Departments in review of significant events.
11. Maintains a strong knowledge of Patient Safety and Performance Improvement related guidelines, regulations, and methods as related to Emergency and Observation Medicine.
12. Review medical record for the occurrence of adverse outcomes, analyze data, and initiate team activities to develop sustainable corrective action plans.
13. Coordinate improvement efforts related to and through teamwork and clear communication.
14. Monitor departmental and organizational quality and safety indicators and intervene with staff to assure that patients receive evidenced based care.
15. Comply with organizational policies regarding confidentiality.
16. All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities.
