The Community and Social Innovation Line of Business collaborates closely with our Analytic Solutions and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) teams, as well as colleagues at our subsidiary, Community Science, to position us and our clients for long-term success.
Director of Community and Social InnovationThe Director is responsible for leading and directing BCT’s Community and Social Innovation Line of Business and leveraging their own expertise in relevant sectors to serve BCT’s clients and grow its market presence. This role provides overall program oversight and management, including supervising managers and staff, while also directly managing specific projects within the portfolio. The Director develops relationships with government, philanthropic, corporate, and nonprofit clients in support of existing contracts and potential new opportunities. This role requires a strong knowledge of client businesses and practices, as well as their short- and long-term goals, ensuring current expectations are met and BCT is positioned as a potential future resource. The Director is also responsible for business development support, marketing and sales efforts, and identifying opportunities.
The ideal candidate for the Director of the Community and Social Innovation Line of Business is a dynamic leader with extensive experience in community and social innovation, consulting, or related sectors. This individual will leverage their expertise to drive BCT's market presence, manage client relationships, and ensure program success. The role requires a strategic thinker with a strong background in business development, project management, and team leadership.
Key Responsibilities Include:Leadership, Subject Matter Expertise and Business Development
  • Identify opportunities to grow and scale BCT Partners’ Community and Social Innovation Line of Business, including opportunities to expand existing business; create new Line of business opportunities
  • Serve as BCT Partner’s ambassador at convenings, conferences, seminars, and events
  • Serve as practice area subject matter expert (SME) in affordable housing, community development and economic development (e.g., anti-displacement strategies, solutions to homelessness, community economic development and wealth building (e.g., systemic issues that affect small business and workforce development), and comprehensive community change initiatives) and proposal writer for business development
Client Management and Project Oversight
  • Leverage understanding of client requirements, regulations, practices and environments to develop effective and efficient operational procedures and solutions; provide strategic planning input for client programs and projects as appropriate
  • Lead, manage, and support projects and/or client engagements, as needed. Serve as project manager, ensuring timely and high-quality deliverables, stakeholder communication and owner accountability
  • Engage with the clients , including regular client engagement meetings; serve as an escalation point for client-related issues; coordinate contract kick-off and exit strategy meetings
  • Engage with partners and subcontracts where applicable and as needed; manage external consultant partner agreements and project management activities
  • Conduct administrative reviews of all contract agreements and oversight of contract modifications
  • Serve as immediate supervisor, advisor and administrative point of contact for all managers in the LOB, developing and maintaining effective relationships with all direct reports and their staff; manage the overall LOB team’s expectations
  • Provide financial and programmatic oversight of project/contract budgets, resources, burn rates, and administrative expenditures; manage project reporting as required by the contract.
Infrastructure Development
  • Design, implement and maintain group and individual development, training and succession plan strategies and practices
  • Design, implement and maintain cross-organization networking practices that bridge resources, share lessons learned, and establish organizational-wide policies that create consistency and value
What you bring to the table:
  • 10 years’ related experience in one or more aspects of housing, community development and economic development and have a demonstrated passion for fostering more equitable communities and other systems through strategy development, technical assistance, training, evaluation, research, and capacity building
  • 5 years’ experience supervising teams, ideally remote teams; experience advising and/or mentoring staff a plus
  • Competency and experience in strategies that use place-based, systems change (e.g., community organizing or advocacy), or environmental approaches intended to advance economic, small business and housing equity in urban and/or rural settings and promote a healthy quality of life for all community members are required
  • Highly skilled communicator when speaking and writing; outstanding public speaking and presentation skills; able to facilitate meetings, presentations and trainings
  • Must be able to travel to client sites and other BCT work related locations as required; estimated at 20%
  • Master’s or advanced degree from an accredited college or university; comparable relevant professional experience may be a sufficient alternative to a degree
BCT offers a competitive total compensation package that, for this position includes a base annual salary range of $145,000 - $155,000 (based on qualifications), along with a generous benefits package. BCT’s benefits include heavily subsidized medical, dental and vision coverage, fully vested 401k plan with company match, company paid life and disability insurance plans, a strong work-life balance/time-off structure.This is a remote position, located in any of the fifty United States or Washington, DC. BCT Partners works primarily on Eastern Time, though we do have staff in all four time zones.
