Summary

Reports to the Manger. Prepares and delivers patient meals according to specifications. Sets up and serves food in the Hospital cafeteria and operates the cash register as assigned. Washing of all dishes created by food production and preparation, cafe set up, patient and cafe meals and special functions. Cleans and stocks "Grab and Go" items in serving line. Helps kitchen staff as needed to set up buffet and salad bar. Serves associates and customers.

Dish Machine Operator Job Duties:

    • Is responsible for the operation of the dish machine.
    • Is responsible for washing dishes, pots and pans for café, patient meals, café meals and special functions.
    • Is responsible for deep cleaning patient food carts Is responsible for keeping dish room area clean.
    • Is responsible for knowledge of safe use of chemicals and detergents.

Server Job Duties:

    • Is responsible for getting pans ready for hot buffet foods. Is responsible for making sandwiches for cooler as needed. Is responsible for serving lunch to employees and other customers.
    • Is responsible for replenishing salad bar and hot buffet as needed.
    • Is responsible to take down salad bar and hot buffet. Is responsible for weekly deep clean of salad bar.
    • Is responsible for removing trash daily.
    • Is responsible to keep tables clean.
    • Is responsible for sweeping & mopping serving area and dining room as needed and required.
    • Is responsible for restocking all food items.
    • Is responsible for recording food temperatures on serving line.
    • Is responsible for checking expiration dates of food and rotating stock as needed and required.

Cashier Job Duties:

    • Is responsible for the operation of the cash register and takes drawer to front desk.
    • Is responsible to check expiration dates on foods and rotate stock.
    • Is responsible for recording food buffet temperatures if asked to help.
    • Is responsible to keep serving area stocked and clean.
    • Is responsible to keep tables clean and napkins stocked.
    • Is responsible to keep drawer by microwave stocked with supplies.
    • Is responsible for cleaning the microwave in the dining room.
    • Is responsible to turn on soup pot and fill with water.
    • Is responsible to keep cooler neat, clean and well stocked.
    • Is responsible for preparing coffee and Iced Tea, cleaning machines and keeping cappuccino machine full and clean.
    • Is responsible for refilling salad bar as needed during serving time.
    • Is responsible for helping clean serving area at end of shift.
    • Helps with trash removal as needed throughout shift. Is responsible for preparing patient supper items such as salads, desserts and entrees.
    • Is responsible for assisting the cook with breakfast and lunch tray line as needed.

AM-Cook Job Duties:

    • Is responsible for preparing breakfast trays and lunch trays for patients.
    • Is responsible to prepare meals for meals on wheels.
    • Is responsible for breakfast items for serving line.
    • Is responsible for washing breakfast dishes if time and work permit.
    • Is responsible for helping Chef in cooking food for buffet line for lunch.
    • Is responsible for starting coffee on serving line.
    • Helps with putting away dishes, cups, silverware, etc. when possible.
    • Is responsible for extra cleaning and baking as time allows.

PM-Cook Job Duties:

    • Is responsible for preparing and serving patient, and staff evening meals.
    • Is responsible to restock ER, OB, Surgery, ADL kitchen and other medical departments daily.
    • Is responsible for washing evening dishes. Is responsible for putting away dishes, cups, and silverware.
    • Is responsible for mopping & sweeping kitchen each day.
    • Is responsible for trash removal each day.
    • Is responsible for extra cleaning and baking as instructed.
    • Is responsible for cleaning and sanitizing dishwashing area for end of day.
    • Is responsible for putting away food from buffet and deciding what to save and what should be discarded.
    • Is responsible for helping Dish person put away lunch dishes after the dishes are washed and dried where/when needed.
    • Is responsible for restocking the nourishment cart each day.
    • Is responsible for getting out prep food for the next day per Chef.
    • Completes other job-related duties and projects as assigned.

Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:

  • Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
  • Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.
  • Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
  • Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
  • Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.
  • Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
  • Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
  • Complies with established organization and department policies.
  • Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

Education and Experience

  • The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are acquired through the successful completion of a high school diploma or equivalentis preferred.Must be a minimum of 17 years of age. Experience in food service is preferred.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Complies with hospital expectations regarding ethical behavior and standards of conduct. Complies with federal and hospital requirements in the areas of protected health information and patient privacy.
  • Attendance at one in-service each year to review hospital policies and procedures is mandatory.
  • Ability to work quickly without sacrificing accuracy or customer service.
  • Must be able to read and understand menus (in English).
  • Good communication skills.

Working Conditions

  • Works in a clean and well lighted hospital and patient care environment with exposure to extreme temperatures, humidity, noise and wet floors.
  • Associate may be exposed to cleaning solutions, blood borne pathogens, infectious disease and other hazardous waste which may require the use of goggles and gloves.

Physical Demands

Frequent lifting (up to 60 pounds), bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling. Work may require an awkward or straining position to be assumed for a short period of time. Must be able to stand and/or walk entire shift.
