Beam’s energy storage business unit in Chicago develops high-performance energy storage solutions that power micro-mobility, terrestrial EVs, aviation, maritime and recreational vehicles as well as stationery and energy-security platforms. Patented thermal management technologies are a competitive advantage for superior high-power lithium-ion battery systems that enable greater safety, longer life, and higher performance across all li-ion chemistries and applications.

Beam is seeking a Plant Manager based onsite in the Chicago facility to lead the production operations for a team that specializes in lithium-ion battery pack manufacturing and bespoke energy storage solutions for customers.

Job Description

The Plant Manager role is responsible for all aspects operations. This includes production staffing, scheduling, onboarding and training of production team members, ensuring adherence to safety and policy guidelines, tracking/reporting of KPIs, and management of the site overall. The Plant Manager will lead operations with direct reporting responsibility for supervisors, inventory management, and shipping/receiving. The Plant Manager will report directly to COO.

Responsibilities

The role encompasses all aspects of production leadership: planning, scheduling, staffing, inventory control, shipping/receiving, workplace policy creation and implementation, and KPI reporting. The Plant Manager will have direct reports in Operations Manager / Supervisor roles who perform front line leadership for the multi-shift operation. The individual in the Plant Manager role will be the key leader for overall operations at the site.

Lead all aspects of production team: planning, staffing, policy enforcement, and delivery reporting.

Build and enhance a culture of inclusion, respect, teamwork, open communication, and continuous improvement.

Ensure a safe and healthy work environment which complies with both local/national requirements and industry best practices.

Manage head count planning, direct hire and temporary staffing balance, and hours/shifts/OT planning as required for production capacity.

Ensure optimum facility conditions for cleanliness, organization, visual signage, and efficient material flow.

Partner with counterparts in Equipment/Process and Design Engineering leadership roles to ensure overall planning, execution, and delivery of products which are in-spec, on-time, and achieve cost targets.

Facility communication and planning between sales team, supply chain team, and NPI teams to ensure visibility and alignment between inventory availability and build schedules.

Implement and leverage ERP system (NetSuite) as consolidated tool for all production execution, reporting, and tracking.

Develop and implement clear and visual KPI which allows the team to track and continually improve production metrics.

Support the business development team with new customer engagements, customer requirements tours and site visits, and direct customer engagements.

Skills/Qualifications:

Minimum 10-years relevant experience, with prior roles leading production operations, inventory, and shipping/receiving teams.

4-year degree in related field, preferably operational, technical, or business related.

Experience in low to mid volume production operations.

Experience in creation and implementation of company policies and business operating systems.

Strong communication, presentation, and organizational skills.

Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams)
