Chicago Transit Authority is Hiring a Senior Manager, Supply Chain Near Chicago, IL

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directs receiving, contract management and/or material distribution for Supply Chain Operations. 
  • Prepares strategic plans to ensure the security and availability of materials and supplies required to operate the Authority’s revenue and non-revenue fleet of bus and/or rail vehicles. Meets with various levels of Authority management to forecast and assess material requests for short, mid, and long range planning.
  • Responsible for planning the design, development, and enhancement of inventory control and material storage and handling systems. Monitors operations and recommends process improvement changes.
  • Oversees requisitions, releases, and contract administration matters for the purchase of materials and services required to maintain the various operating facilities located throughout the service area.
  • Functions as liaison between various field General Managers and Supply Chain groups to resolve issues that delay returning vehicles to service. Determines source of material problems, directs actions to improve material availability, and resolves problems with vendors.
  • Responsible for maintenance and general appearance of warehouse facilities. Conducts inspections to check equipment and evaluate work methods, efficiency, and safety conditions ensuring strict compliance with established rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Develops and manages the Supply Chain Operations annual operating and capital budgets. Participates in the development and administration of the Supply Chain programs, policies, goals, and objectives, as directed by the General Manager.
  • Hires, trains, develops, monitors and evaluates staff. Reviews and recommends for approval personnel actions.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

CHALLENGES

  • Meeting the department goal of providing parts and equipment to maximize bus fleet availability.
  • Achieving departmental goal of optimizing material availability to meet service delivery demand.
  • Reducing inventory levels while providing optimum customer service.
  • Improving worker productivity.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree plus six (6) years of related experience and two year of supervisory experience, or a combination or education and experience related to the position.
  • Valid State of Illinois Driver’s License.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Walking inside and outside warehouses and stockrooms.
  • Requires remaining in a stationary position for extended periods of time and constantly operating a computer and other office productivity machinery.
  • Service Area Requirement: Exempt (Non-Union) employees must live within the boundaries of the CTA Statutory Service Area either at the time of employment or within 6 months of beginning employment at CTA.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Detailed knowledge of supply chain, inventory management, and warehousing operations.
  • Detailed knowledge OSHA standards and Industrial Safety and Fire Prevention programs.
  • Detailed knowledge of equipment used in warehousing operations.
  • Working knowledge of Oracle, RADS and JD Edwards computerized inventory and imaging systems.
  • Working knowledge of budget and contract principals and processes.
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Good management, organizational, and planning skills.
  • Good verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Intermediate computer skills including proficiency in the use of computer software applications that relate to inventory and computerized inventory management systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple locations.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • General office environment.
  • Subject to normal warehouse conditions, including exposure to yard and shop conditions, noise, dust, and moving equipment.

  • Standard office equipment.

Final salary will be determined in part by the qualifications of the selected candidate and may be higher or lower than target.
