Employment in this position is effective August 15, 2024 through June 12, 2025. This is a part-time position (19 hours per week). Candidate must have an Associate Degree or have completed at least 48 semester hours of coursework. Classified employees must have, or be willing to obtain shortly after becoming employed, their CDL and they must maintain their CDL throughout their employment.

JOB TITLE: BEHAVIOR SUPPORT ASSISTANT
STATUS: PARTTIME POSITION
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
The Behavioral Support Assistant will provide interventions and strategies to students that are experiencing chronic and acute behavioral/emotional needs in order to improve the students’ overall behavioral functioning and provide an alternative to suspension. The Behavioral Support Assistant will also collaborate with school personnel regarding the implementation of various behavioral strategies and interventions. Must also be skilled in handling crises and rapidly developing behavioral needs of students. Reports to the Principal.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED
TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Physical Requirements: Must be able to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools such as computers, copiers, typewriters, calculators, pencils, scissors, and equipment for children with special needs, etc. Must be able to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Due to amount of time spent standing and/or walking, physical requirements are consistent with those for Light Work.
Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving instructions, assignments and/or directions from superiors. Must be able to maintain a calm and professional demeanor when communicating with an escalated student.
Technology: Have working knowledge and proficient level of experience with Microsoft Office Programs such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Google documents.
Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using office equipment.
Manual Dexterity: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items such as office equipment and hand tools. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations.
Physical Communication: Requires the ability to talk and hear: (Talking: expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words. Hearing: perceiving nature of sounds by ear). Must be able to communicate via telephone.
