Position Overview

Beaumont Youth Soccer Club (BYSC), a 501 (C) (3) non-profit organization based in Southeast Texas, is accepting applications for the Director of Academy (DOA) position. BYSC is a full-service club providing Competitive, Academy and Recreational levels of play for boys and girls ages 3-18. BYSC has been teaching the wonderful game of soccer in Beaumont for over 40 years. Our fields are located within the Cris Quinn Memorial Soccer complex which maintains approx. 160 acres. We seek a DOA with a strong background in youth soccer player and coach development in all phases. We expect the incoming DOA to focus on the development of the academy ages U7-U10 but also help support the players, coaches, trainers, and admins throughout the club. The DOA role is a full time, year-round position with future opportunities for advancement.

The Ideal Candidate:

The Director of Academy is a leadership, people management, and project management role. The ideal candidate will have experience managing and leading people toward the achievement of organizational objectives and performance goals, especially in the areas of player and coach development. The DOA is expected to have excellent parent management skills and should maintain positive collaborative with staff, board of directors and surrounding community. The DOA is expected to be comfortable with working under multiple supervisory and/or collaborative bodies including the Board of Directors, Club Committees, and league management personnel.

Essential Job Functions

The DOA’s primary responsibility is ensuring that all academy players are being trained and coached using the proper methodology. The DOA will use Academy curriculum and training methodology set forth by South Texas Youth Soccer Association & U.S. Soccer as a foundation for the coaching and training at the club. The DOA will be expected to implement this curriculum as well as adjust it to address technical and tactical shortcomings during the season. The DOA will also be responsible for developing and training academy, recreational coaches and trainers through year-round coaching education & reinforcement programs. The DOA will also be expected to implement a curriculum and methodology for all coaches and players in the rec program. In the offseason, the DOA will help the club through various programs to continue to offer game play and skills trainings including but not limited to summer/winter leagues, open clinics, skills sessions, and tournaments. The DOA will be expected to create and implement a personal Player Development Plan (PDP) for each player in the Academy that includes periodic player and parent feedback. The DOA will also be expected to plan, organize, promote, and implement evaluations, team formation, roster configuration and training schedules for Academy teams. The DOA will be expected to attend training sessions (during the season) each night of training (M-Thur, Sun). The DOA would also be expected to attend games where he/she will assist, coach, and evaluate teams. The DOA must build and maintain a strong and qualified coaching staff for the club at all recreational levels by creating an environment where coaches are challenged, developed, and recognized for their abilities, dedication, and commitment to the club’s vision, culture, goals, and player development philosophy. The DOA will provide semi-annual written evaluations to the professional coaching staff. The DOA will ensure that the club’s vision, mission, and core values are reflected in the behavior of the staff, players, and parents.

Requirements & Qualifications

BYSC is looking for a DOA with A USSF “C” license or above. The DOA is expected to continue his or her coaching education through US Soccer licensed courses. It is preferred that he/she have professional or collegiate (4-year) playing experience or an extensive coaching background. It is important to BYSC that the DOA have a desire to continue his/her education and achieve a USSF “B” license in the next 1-2 years. The DOA candidate must also have coached youth or High school soccer a minimum of 5 years. The DOA needs to be comfortable with public speaking and an ability to speak to coaches, parents, or community groups. The DOA would be expected to complete 15-20 office hours per week in season and 30-40 hours in winter and summer off-seasons. The DOA should attend monthly club board and coaching meetings as needed. The DOA should advise and assist the board in promoting the club within the community and help with public relations with schools, youth or civic organization where applicable. The DOA would also plan, organize and implement any process or infrastructure development projects assigned by the Board that deems applicable to the DOA position (i.e. documentation, guides, process, etc. that improve players, coaches and the club).
