Bell Lumber & Pole is Hiring a Quality Control Inspector Near Broken Bow, OK

Job DescriptionThe purpose of the Quality Control Inspector is to check all treated poles to assure quality and conformance with ANSI, REA, AWPA and customer standards on behalf of Bell Lumber & Pole. Additionally the Quality Control Inspector must be able to identify and assess all of the limited and prohibitive defects as described in the ANSI, REA & AWPA standards as they relate to utility poles and related products.
Essential Job Duties
  • Testing treating charges for penetration and retention of treating solution according to Bell Lumber and Pole testing procedures.
  • Identifying poles or groups of poles that do not meet the specifications as interoperated by Bell Lumber & Pole Management.
  • Properly identify any defects, limited or prohibited, and apply the proper grading rules per ANSI, AWPA, ASTM, REA standards.
  • Accurately filling in the paper records for verification of treatment testing.
  • Be able to titrate the treating solution.
  • Keep the QC lab and related work areas clean, neat and orderly.
  • Effectively communicate the results of treating charges to the Treating Engineers, Yard Supervisor, Quality Control Manager and Plant Manager.
  • Communicate effectively among other Quality Control Inspectors, internal and external independent inspectors.
  • Proper record keeping for all treating charge results.
Job QualificationsEducation: High School diploma or equivalent.
Experience
  • Working in an outdoor environment in variable weather conditions.
  • Quality control or inspection background a plus.
Skills And Competencies
  • Ability to read and understand all REA, ANSI and AWPA standards as they relate to utility poles and related products that are treated at Bell Lumber & Pole.
  • Must understand Bell Lumber & Pole inventory system.
  • Ability to accurately and precisely read a tape measure.
  • Ability to climb and descend ladders.
  • Ability to climb on, over and around poles and pole piles.
  • Advanced math skills.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Good handwriting.
  • Ability to keep precise and accurate records.
  • Safety – must be able to properly use and maintain all PPE associated with this job.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDSWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms and is occasionally required to sit, talk and hear, and to use hands to finger, handle or feel. The employee will frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, infrequently lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus. The work environment characteristics are best defined as an outdoor environment with exposure to elements such as heat, precipitation, wind. Employees will have moderate exposure to noise as heard in pole production yard, including exposure to higher noise levels associated with power equipment. Employee will have light exposure to the chemicals and solutions used in treating wood. The job may occasionally require overtime.
