Bellevue School District is Hiring a General School Assistant - Newport High School 2024-25 Near Bellevue, WA

Position ObjectiveThe position of General School Assistant is for the purpose of providing instructional and non-instructional support in the school setting, assisting school staff as they focus on the instructional initiatives.

  • May work under the direct supervision of a certificated, administrative or classified staff member based upon the assigned duties
  • May provide support to teachers with materials, supplies and copying
  • May perform routine tasks in monitoring and assisting student progress within a classroom setting
  • May work with individual students or small groups of students in a classroom setting as directed by a certificated staff member
  • May record observations and data regarding student progress as directed by the classroom teacher or administrator
  • Assist with activities offered by the school which may include before or after school activities
  • May accompany groups of students on field trips and other outings
  • Attends staff meetings as required
  • Participates in professional development and training as required for the position
  • May work with English Language Learners, requiring an understanding of their unique needs
  • May work in an office or general school setting
  • May be assigned to support elementary school health clinics, performing duties as assigned by the nurse
  • May enter records regarding students as needed for the position
  • May provide support for serving a diverse population of students
  • May provide clerical and other support if assigned to a school office or non-classroom setting
  • May provide supervision of students in non-classroom settings, including lunch room, playground or cross-walks
  • May provide supervision for parking lots as required
  • Collaborates with other staff members as required for the assignment
  • Exposed to interruptions to concentration.
  • Required to perform or track multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Required to remain flexible to changes in work assignment, to remain flexible under pressure, and to respond appropriately to various situations.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Reporting Relationships
  • Reports to and is directly supervised by Building Administrator
RequiredEDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (positions in this class typically require):
  • High school graduation or equivalent
And Have At Least One Of The Following
  • ETS Paraeducator Assessment, or
  • Have an Associate of Arts degree (original transcripts), or
  • Have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at an institution of higher education (original transcripts), or
  • Have completed a registered apprenticeship program (certificate);
  • Foreign degrees accepted if evaluated by a NACES member company.
Preferred
  • Experience working in a school setting
  • Associates degree or equivalent

  • Demonstrates basic academic knowledge in core content areas with a focus on math and reading

  • Understands basic safety and emergency procedures including basics of hygiene and cleanliness

Physical RequirementsPositions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time.
Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.
Conditions Of EmploymentThis is a general posting for one or more General School Assistant positions. Positions may be full or part-time and will be filled as specific openings are identified.
AISP pay range P1 $ 23.35 per hour to $ 24.99 per hour (starting hourly rate $ 23.35 per hour) based on negotiated collective bargaining agreement. Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 4:00pm. Medical, dental, vision, long-term disability, and life-insurance eligibility is based upon 630 hours worked within a school year. Retirement provided through Washington State Department of Retirement Systems.
