Bellevue School District is Hiring a Library media specialist Near Bellevue, WA

POSITION OBJECTIVE :

This position fulfills the roles of Learning and Teaching, Intellectual and Physical Access to Information, and Program Administration as identified through the district Library Media Specialist duties in accordance with the American Association of School Librarians.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES : (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)

Learning and Teaching :

  • Implement Information Literacy by integrating information skills with curriculum as part
  • of the district program.
  • Design, teach, evaluate, and reinforce instruction so students become effective users of ideas and information.
  • Collaborate with teachers to analyze information literacy needs, identify resources and integrate information skills.
  • Engage students and assist teachers in promoting reading experiences for student
  • understanding and enjoyment.
  • Provide resources and develop activities to meet the diverse learning abilities, styles and needs of all students.
  • Model and promote effective uses of technology as a tool for learning and teaching.

Intellectual and Physical Access to Information :

  • Build in-depth knowledge about the library collection in order to assist students and staff in identifying appropriate information resources for learning.
  • Organize resources, arrange library facility, and maintain library catalog for efficient access to information by all.
  • Create an inviting, appealing climate with equitable access to a range of information resources for all students and staff.
  • Collaboratively develop a quality library media collection through expertise in media selection and knowledge of the diverse interests, abilities and styles of all students.
  • Communicate the principles of intellectual freedom, intellectual property rights, privacy rights and the ethical use of information through library programs and practices.
  • Provide links to the community through promoting relationships and access to resources beyond the school.

Program Administration :

  • Collaborate and administer the library media program to support the mission, goals and
  • objectives of the district.
  • Analyze data and library statistics for the continuous improvement of the library media program and develop a budget providing for the purchase, processing and upkeep of library resources.
  • Update professional expertise by staying current on issues related to best practices for learning and teaching, information literacy and use of current information technologies.
  • Communicate the mission, goals, functions, and impact of the library media program.
  • Manage personnel (assistants, volunteers) and financial and physical resources (facility and media).

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS :

Reports directly to and is supervised by the Building Administrator.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE : (positions in this class typically require)

Required :

Possess or qualify for immediate issuance of a valid Washington State teaching certificate with an endorsement with an endorsement in Learning Resources.

Preferred :

  • A Masters degree or at least 30 semester hours in Information Technologies / Library
  • Science from an ALA accredited library school or a comparable program.
  • Recent experience and a strong library-media / information technology background with the ability to use online subscription databases and web resources.

KNOWLEDGE : (position requirements at entry)

Knowledge of intellectual and emotional needs of students at appropriate grade levels and

ability to communicate effectively with those age groups.

  • Ability to perform all duties in accordance with applicable Board policies and district and legal requirements.
  • Ability to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

Positions in this class typically require : stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

This position may be exposed to prolonged exposure to visual display terminals as required.

Medium Work : Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and / or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and / or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT :

This is a general posting for one or more positions. Positions may be full or part-time and will be filled as specific openings are identified.

$ 69,816 to $ 130,960 annual salary (based on the negotiated collective bargaining agreement ). Certificated staff work the school year contract with placement on the District and BEA bargaining agreement salary schedule.

Placement on the schedule is determined by training and experience.

Medical, dental, vision, long-term disability, and life-insurance eligibility is based upon .45 FTE. Retirement provided through Washington State Department of Retirement System
