TITLE:Student Council Advisor
FUNCTION:To assume the responsibility of organizing, guiding and supervising the

appropriate activities of the student council. Directly responsible to the building

principal.
DUTIES:
1. Oversee the election of the members of the Student Council each year.
2. Be familiar with the by-laws of the Bellingham High School Student Council.
3. Arrange for the payment of dues to Central Massachusetts District Association of Student

Councils and attend fall and/or spring conventions with student delegates.
4. Guide officers in their duties, especially those of holding regular meetings.
5. Promote activities on a school-wide basis, which will foster school spirit and/or leadership

qualities within the student body.
6. Be familiar with the Massachusetts State Laws governing the elections of Regional

Representatives and Student Advisory Council members.
7. Oversee the nomination procedures and final elections of:
a.Student Council Officers
b.Student Advisory Council Representatives
c.Regional Representatives to the State Department of Education
d.Student Government Day Representative
e.Officers for all classes in Bellingham High School
8. Meet regularly with S.A.C. members and Regional Representatives to coordinate their

activities with those of BHS Student Council.
9. Prepare necessary press releases throughout the school year.
10. Prepare and present recognition awards to Senior Student Councilors on Class Day.
11. Assume responsibilities for related duties that may be assigned by the building principal.
12. Adheres to the adopted policies of the Bellingham School Committee.

EXPERIENCE:
1.Preferably a member of the High School teaching staff.
2.Experience and knowledge of Student Council activities and programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Dedication to the service of youth.
2. Demonstrated ability to relate favorably with students.
