Position Overview: As a key member of our team, you will lead the accounting function focused on the preparation and analysis of Bellwether's financial statements. This role will support the Controller and CFO with the month-end close process, complex GL reconciliations, journal entry reviews, budgeting and audit preparation. As the Accounting Manager, you will lead and oversee a team of Senior Accountants, GL Accountants, Development Accountants, and AP and AR staff - ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting and compliance with the US GAAP. You will also be responsible for managing daily accounting operations, supporting process improvements, and ensuring the team works together effectively and efficiently. The ideal manager will have strong accounting analysis skills, the ability to lead and motivate a team while learning new systems in a fast-paced environment while also managing conflicting deadlines, with strong attention to detail, and the capacity to solve complex problems and improve processes.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 9 - 5; Hybrid - Onsite 3 days per week. Final schedule to be determined by supervisor.
Your Impact: - Supervise and lead the accounting team in daily operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger and payroll.
- Oversee the accurate and timely performance of month-end, quarter-end and year-end close processes, including reconciliation of key accounts, maintenance of roll-forwards, journal entry review and variance analyses.
- Coordinate the preparation and delivery of the financial reporting package for Controller and CFO review; ensure reports are accurate, complete, and prepared on schedule.
- Maintain and improve financial reporting systems and internal controls.
- Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures.
- Review the trial balances and financial statements for completeness, accuracy, and conformity to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Assist Controller with the annual financial statement audits (Tax Credits and Non-profit Audit).
- Assist Controller with annual tax returns and regulatory reporting including Form 990, Form 1120 and Form 5500.
- Train and mentor junior accounting staff.
Who You Are: - Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, and/or related field.
- 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including financial statement preparation.
- 2 years in a supervisory role or as a team lead.
- Demonstrated ability to hire, lead and develop junior staff members.
- Experience with financial reporting software, preferably Yardi Voyager.
- Experience with interpretation and application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite, including the ability to develop advanced spreadsheets, manage databases, and produce meaningful charts and graphs within Excel.
- Proven ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects.
- Excellent independent analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to relate to and collaborate with team members, stakeholders, and government agencies.

Desired Qualifications:
- Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant
- Experience with Yardi Voyager ERP system
- Project management experience
- LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit) and affordable housing experience
- Master's degree in accounting
