Mechanical Engineer based out of Grand Rapids, Michigan

Job Summary:

As a Mechanical Engineer at Belt Power, you will be responsible for applying engineering principles to develop solution for products and equipment. Providing technical support to the sales, production, and quality control department. Takes projects from concept through to the design and build stage to implementation and support. The Mechanical Engineer will work closely with maintenance staff and contractors, ensuring that all work id completed to a satisfactory level and in a timely manner.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Design of machines, fixtures, and products.
  • Create mechanical design solutions as directed by engineering team members or customers.
  • Ownership of new product development projects.
  • Collaborate with inside and outside sales staff to generate 3D models and 2D drawings for customer approval.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Production team, Account Manager, Sales, or Customers in drawing, creation for new parts.
  • Reverse engineer design solutions and products.
  • Create DXF files and 2D drawings for specialty belts and parts to be fabricated both by shop staff and CNC equipment.
  • Perform computations and conducts tests to ensure design performance.
  • Drive QC process standards to ensure that design requirements are met by finished products.
  • Generate part numbers for new items and ensure that they are properly integrated into company systems.
  • Accurately measure and create drawing from physical parts provided by customer.
  • Exercise proper care in the use of tools and equipment.
  • Observe all prescribed safety rules and regulations; maintain work area in a neat and orderly condition.
  • Represent Belt Power in a professional manner at all times.
  • Required to wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • 3D modelling and drawing generation experience required.
  • Mechanical Engineering degree, Mechanical Engineering associate degree, or Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) associate degree required.
  • Fusion 360, Inventor, SolidWorks or SolidEdge experience required.
  • Organization and prioritization skills; attention to detail.
  • Highly responsive to and respectful of customer needs.
  • The ability to interpret and verify precise measurements using a tape measure.
  • Mechanical Aptitude.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, as well as ability to work at heights and tight spaces.
  • Overtime hours and weekend work may be required.
  • Overnight travel
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen, and background check.

Physical Demands:

The Mechanical Engineer may lift and / or move up to 50 pounds and will require manual dexterity and strength in arms and feet to manipulate equipment controls. Tools, and other items used to make adjustment and/or minor maintenance. Will use hands, arms, back, and shoulders to handle, installs, position, move items, and manipulate other objects. Could be in a sitting, standing, bending, kneeling, or sitting position for long periods of time.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this position, the Mechanical Engineer will be regularly exposed to working near moving and mechanical parts and equipment. This is largely a sedentary role; this would require the ability to lift up to lift up to 50 pounds at times, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position in office and shop. Typical workdays and hours are Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm. Occasional travel, overtime and weekends may be required.

Pay Range: $65,000 - $80,000 a year
