Benchmark IT- Technology Talent is Hiring a Senior Project Manager - Long Term Contract Near Poughkeepsie, NY

Our client is seeking a Senior Project Manager to support the Technology PMO Program Manager, with a crucial focus on field service management experience. This role requires strong expertise in managing field service management and mobile workforce management solutions, especially within the utilities sector. Utilizing the company's Technology Project Management methodology, the Project Manager will deliver moderate to large-scale projects within defined scope, schedule, and budget. They will oversee all phases of technology projects, from initiation and planning through design, testing, and delivery, ensuring they meet measurable business objectives. The role includes managing the entire project lifecycle, from intake through transition to operations and project closure, within a matrix environment.
This is a hybrid role in their Poughkeepsie, NY office.
Responsibilities:
People/Team:

  • Exhibit strong interpersonal and customer service skills to enhance project collaboration and promote project management's value.
  • Manage vendor relationships and align expectations and deliverables with vendor implementation resources.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop project artifacts appropriate for each project stage (scope, schedule, budget, test plan, communication plan, etc.).
  • Facilitate critical discussions on risks, issues, dependencies, and decisions, developing action plans with the team.
  • Contribute to IT PMO evolution by suggesting efficiency improvements, educating stakeholders, providing feedback, and implementing approved changes.
  • Apply Organizational Change Management principles for effective communication and adoption.

Project Management, Financial Strength & Risk Management:

  • Use PMBOK, SDLC Waterfall, SDLC Iterative, and Agile frameworks to manage project governance, risks, and delivery within scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Provide detailed status reports for executives, sponsors, and project teams.
  • Create and maintain project estimates and budgets, managing cost forecasts.
  • Execute change control processes to manage scope, schedule, and cost transparently.
  • Utilize Project Management tools (MS Project, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, PPM, budgeting software) for high-quality project deliveries.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures, including change management, incident reporting, time accounting, expense reporting, and compliance.

Technology:

  • Understand technical constraints and dependencies to ensure high-quality solution delivery.
  • Partner with technical leads and vendors to translate requirements into comprehensive test plans and technical solutions.
  • Demonstrate technical acumen to ensure high-quality design, testing, and cutover activities by the project team.

Qualifications:
Requirements:

  • Strong experience project managing field services management and mobile workforce management solutions for utilities
  • Bachelor’s degree (preferably in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration or a related field)
  • 7 years of professional experience formally leading projects within a cross-functional environment
  • Strong experience working within the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) Waterfall and Iterative models
  • Ability to tactfully drive indirect reports and pivot while maintaining order in a fast-paced business environment
  • Experience providing a service to internal stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes
  • Demonstrated capability for problem solving, decision making, sound judgment, assertiveness
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as strong presentation skills and the ability to conduct presentations to large groups
  • Strong relationship building and interpersonal skills
  • Experienced user of MS Project and MS Office toolset (Word, Excel, Visio, and PowerPoint)
  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP), Six Sigma, or Agile certification
  • Experience working in Software Development and Test Organizations
  • Master’s degree (in aforementioned fields)
  • Experience in Energy & Utilities or services industry
  • Experience with SAP implementations or optimizations
  • Experience with PPM tools (e.g., UMT360, Planview, ServiceNow, Project Server Online, etc.)
  • Experience in a consultative role with an implementation service organization or start-up
