BEND-LAPINE SD is Hiring a 1.0 FTE Speech and Language Pathologist - Regular Near Bend, OR

JOB DEFINITION:

Under general supervision, the Speech / Language Specialist works to reduce or eliminate speech and language problems that interfere with the student's ability to derive full benefit from the district's educational programs..

NATURE AND SCOPE OF WORK:

The Speech/ Language Specialist identifies and diagnoses all students who may be speech and/or language impaired.. This diagnoses includes disorders of articulation, voice and fluency, as well as expression and receptive language delays/disorders. The program's aim is to give speech and language disordered students the opportunity to develop effective receptive and expressive communication skills in all academic and social areas.. The Speech/Language Specialist works under supervision of the principal / administrator in charge of Special Programs.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Identifies students eligible for speech / language services through general
  1. Screens new students and those referred by parents, teachers, counselors, physicians, nurses or other persons or agencies.
  1. Provides in-depth diagnosis as needed..
  1. Schedules speech and language
  1. Develops an Individualized Education Program for each
  1. Implements an Individualized Education Program for each student
  1. Plans and prepares in all areas of the .
  1. Records data and assesses the progress of each student
  1. Conferences with parents and teachers regarding student's
  1. Conducts referral and follow-up
  1. Confers with school district personnel as needed including in-building screening committee and staff meetings..
  1. Fulfills all appropriate responsibilities assigned to the classroom teacher..
  1. Fulfills other duties as assumed or assigned..

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The employee works with groups of students and on a one-to-one basis.. Students include those who may be physically and mentally handicapped, learning disabled, emotionally disturbed and culturally different Supervision and instructional responsibilities require the employee to be able to stand for up to 45 consecutive minutes and move rapidly to intervene in situations where a student's safety is being jeopardized. The supervision may also occur during times of inclement weather. The employee needs to be able to lift materials, boxes or equipment weighing up to 30 pounds..
