JOB DEFINITION:The consulting registered nurse provides a variety of direct and indirect health related services to students within Bend-La Pine Schools. The nurse works within the school setting to strengthen and facilitate the educational process by improving and protecting the health status of children. The nurse is the major health resource in regular and special education programs within the district. The nurse composes health protocols, provides trainings to staff on emergency procedures and delegatable tasks. The consulting registered nurse works under the supervision of the health services supervisor of Bend-La Pine Schools.NATURE AND SCOPE OF WORK:This position is subject to board policies, administrative rules and procedures, department regulations, and applicable state and federal statutes.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Provides a systemic problem solving method based on the following nursing process:

WORKING CONDITIONS:The nurse can work with a student or students who may be physically and mentally disabled, emotionally disturbed, and/or culturally different. Supervision responsibilities require that the nurse be able to stand for up to 30 consecutive minutes and have the ability to move rapidly to intervene in situations where a student’s safety is being jeopardized. The nurse at times may be required to lift students who are physically handicapped or unable or unwilling to assist with toileting or other activities.
