JOB TITLE: Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Sport Management
DIVISION: Academic Affairs
SUPERVISOR’S TITLE: Department Chair
DEPARTMENT: Health & Sport Management
Job DescriptionBenedict College has a full-time, tenure track faculty position in Sport Management available for the 2024-2025 academic year in the Health & Sport Management Department.
BASIC FUNCTIONS: Teach and develop courses in discipline as assigned by the dean or department chair; provide academic advising to students; maintain an active scholarly agenda of research and service; serve on departmental, school, and college committees; engage in assessment requirements; participate in community service and outreach programs; and work collaboratively with colleagues and other programs. This faculty member will maintain a minimum of 10 office hours per week for student access and inquiry. _____________________________________________________________________________________
Principal Accountability
  • Teach 12 sch per semester (combination of undergraduate and graduate courses in sport management)
  • Provide advising to assigned students at the undergraduate and graduate levels to include advisement of senior research papers, graduate theses, capstone and culminating research projects
  • Contribute to curriculum development, assessment of student learning outcomes, and co-curricular enhancements
  • Serve on committees on department, school, and college levels
  • Engage in scholarly research appropriate for rank
  • Develop and submit grant proposals
  • Participate in public service initiatives
  • Collaborate with colleagues on initiatives supportive of transformational student learning
  • Support student development through field studies, competitions, department and campus organizations and initiatives, service-learning, etc.
Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
  • Strong track record of successful college teaching
  • Proficiency with the development and implementation of courses using virtual learning resources and teaching platforms
  • Demonstrated capacity to facilitate student learning and engagement
  • Commitment to excellence in college teaching, to an active scholarly agenda, and to working in a multicultural environment that fosters diversity
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional responsibilities, student development, and service
Minimum QualificationsMINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Earned PhD (or ABD) in Sport Management, or sport-related field
  • Familiarity with sport management curriculum and programs
  • Familiarity with COSMA and accreditation standards
  • Familiarity with academic advising to include supervising undergraduate (i.e., internships, research projects) and graduate experiences (i.e., theses)
  • Ability to use technology effectively in teaching and learning ability to demonstrate collegiality and a sound work ethic
Preferred Qualifications
  • Earned PhD in Sport Management
  • Two (2) or more years of successful teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate level in higher education
  • Established research agenda and record of scholarly work in discipline
  • Successful track record of academic advising of undergraduates and graduate experiences (i.e., theses, practicums)
