This is a full-time position, 9-month academic year, tenure-track, beginning August 1, 2023.
______________________________________________________________________Principal AccountabilityThe Communication and Arts Department in the School of Communication, Arts and Social Sciences at Benedict College is seeking applicants for the position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Mass Communication program. The successful candidate will fulfill the responsibilities of a journalism writing and reporting domain expert. This position requires teaching the 200- and 300- and 400-level hands-on courses, such as MASS233 Writing for Mass Media, MASS234 Reporting for New Media, MASS235A Intro to PR, MASS334 Feature Editorial Writing, MASS332 Media Practicum, and MASS338 Layout for Publications, with up to four courses taught each semester. The competitive candidate should maintain a commitment to student recruitment and retention, and a commitment to scholarly, service, and community activities appropriate in academe. This faculty member will maintain 10 office hours per week for student access and inquiry.
Required Knowledge Skills And AbilitiesA successful candidate will have a Doctorate or Master’s degree in Mass Communication, with undergraduate and Master’s – level course work completed within Journalism, Broadcasting, Print, PR, or Integrated Communications concentrations respectively. Teaching experience and the ability to relate to all students and colleagues is a requirement. As well, a broad knowledge of the Mass Media industries and a recent experience as a reporter, editor, PR officer or news producer is essential. The winning candidate will be comfortable serving as a news reporting, writing, and editing domain expert.
