Berkeley Lab is Hiring a Senior Electronics Engineering Associate Near Berkeley, CA

The Engineering Division of Berkeley Lab is seeking Senior Electronics Engineering Associate to independently oversee technical and construction support for the ALS-U. Responsibilities include documentation, procurement, installation instructions, oversight of ALS-U electronic and electrical systems testing, and coordinating with subsystem leads to ensure NEC-compliant cabling and AC distribution hardware design.
The ALS ( https://www.als.lbl.gov ) is a world-class accelerator-based user facility that provides high intensity high energy photon beams for science. A 200-meter circumference electron accelerator generates photon packets that feed the more than 40 independent beamlines where more than 2000 scientists per year perform their experiments. The ALS has recently started a major accelerator upgrade project to rejuvenate the facility for many years to come.
What You Will Do
  • Collaborate on specifying electrical infrastructure, including AC loads and delivery methods to racks and components, and control cabling/wireway methods, adhering to NEC and LBNL standards.
  • Specify, research, and procure electrical and electronics equipment, ensuring compliance with NEC, NRTL, and seismic regulations.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for accelerator electrical and electronic systems, including design proposals, specifications, installation instructions, and schematics for ALS-U, following ALS-U, LBNL, and industry standards, using approved CAD tools and procedures.
  • Create and update electrical drawings per ALS-U/ALS guidelines in Windchill.
  • Develop installation and work instructions based on design/subsystem input.
  • Provide guidance to electricians/EM/EI during installation and supervise under managerial direction.
