Berkeley Lab is Hiring a Training coordinator Near San Francisco, CA

Berkeley Lab's Security & Emergency Services Division is hiring a Drill, Training, & Exercise (DTE) Coordinator . Reporting to the Emergency Manager, the DTE Coordinator will support LBNL by ensuring compliance and other emergency management directives.

Key duties include developing program materials, response plans, and exercise plans, and assessing preparedness policies and impacts.

The role involves working across operations and research divisions to enhance the Laboratory’s preparedness and resiliency.

The position also includes being part of the LBNL emergency response team, subject to 24 / 7 activation.

What You Will Do : Emergency Management

Emergency Management

  • The incumbent supports the Emergency Manager in meeting institutional and regulatory requirements for the lab's Emergency Management Program.
  • Responsibilities include developing program materials, response plans, and exercise plans to ensure compliance, serving on exercise design teams, maintaining emergency equipment and facilities, providing oversight and training for emergency response personnel, integrating response operations and first responders, and assisting with program assurance activities such as audits and surveys.

Continuity Program

  • The incumbent supports updating, managing, and exercising the LBNL Continuity of Operations Plan and Business Continuity Plan.
  • Responsibilities include working with management to implement program requirements, coordinating the development of program documentation, assessing impacts of preparedness policies, and overseeing continuity drills and exercises following FEMA HSEEP guidelines.

Emergency Response Organization

All Security and Emergency Services Department members have emergency duties during incidents affecting Lab safety, security, personnel, environment, or property.

This position requires 24 / 7 / 365 availability for recall and assignments during extended hours, nights, weekends, and holidays for such events.

Professional Development

Training and Development : Seek certification in relevant continuity and emergency management competencies. Stay updated on training requirements for State Emergency Management System, National Incident Management System, National Response Framework, Incident Command System, and DOE mandates.

What is Required :

Relevant experience in continuity and / or emergency management : 2 years minimum at SE1.2 level5 years minimum at SE1.

3 level8 years minimum at SE1.4 level

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 1600, DOE Order 150.1B, DOE O 151.1D, National Response Framework (NRF), National Incident Management System (NIMS), California Standardized Emergency Management System (SEMS), and / or Incident Command System (ICS).
  • Capable of developing, preparing, and implementing continuity policies, plans, procedures, and related documentation.
  • Skilled in collaborative environments for training development and delivery.
  • Competent in conducting drills, exercises, and scenario development.
  • Effective communicator, both verbally and in writing, with internal and external partners at all levels.

Desired Qualifications :

  • Graduate-level degree or relevant coursework, training, or certifications in emergency management.
  • FEMA qualifications in Incident Command System positions such as Planning Section Chief, Situation Unit Leader, etc.
  • Master Exercise Practitioner.
  • Certified Emergency Manager.
  • Standardized Emergency Management System (SEMS) Training.
  • FEMA or other relevant Incident Command Systems (ICS) training.

Notes :

  • This is a full-time career appointment, exempt (monthly paid) from overtime pay.
  • This position is expected to pay $92,748 - $113,340 annually, which fits into the full salary range of $82,440 - $139,116 for the job classification of SE1.2.
  • This position is expected to pay $113,736 - $139,020 annually, which fits into the full salary range of $101,112 - $170.

616 for the job classification of SE1.3.

  • This position is expected to pay $135,504 - $165,624 annually, which fits into the full salary range of $120,444 - $203,244 for the job classification of SE1.4.
  • Salary for this position will commensurate with the final candidate’s qualification and experience, including skills, knowledge, relevant education, certifications, plus also aligned with the internal peer group.
  • It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate's qualifications and experience.

Work schedules are dependent on business needs. Individuals working a hybrid schedule must reside within 150 miles of Berkeley Lab.
