Berry College is Hiring a Beef Cattle Operations Manager Near Mount Berry, GA

Job Description:

The Department of Agricultural Operations is seeking a Beef Cattle Operations Manager. The College, located on 27,000 acres near Rome, Georgia, is independent and coeducational with approximately 2,100 undergraduate and graduate students. The College's mission stresses academic excellence, practical work experience, and an interdenominational religion-in-life program.

Livestock: Berry College is recognized nationally and historically for top genetics with the Angus Breed, which is used for teaching, production, and research in Berry's undergraduate Animal Science and Pre-Veterinary Programs. Berry College also has over 100 Katahdin Sheep and 80 Jersey cows that are used for academics, production, and research. The beef herd currently consists of approximately 220 animals.

Core Responsibilities: The primary functions include management of the beef herds with occasional support or collaboration with sheep and other units, oversight of farm facilities and maintenance, student workers, and support of the academic programs of the College, particularly Animal Science. Experience with all aspects of farm operations and a strong commitment to the educational mission of a college farm are required. The Beef Manager must be dedicated to student learning and to the successful operations conducted in support of that educational mission. Experience with beef farm operations, forage production, fencing, farm equipment operation, and a strong mechanical aptitude is a must. Responsibilities also include herd nutrition, reproduction, forage production, fencing, and farm/equipment maintenance.

Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree in animal sciences, beef production, or a closely related field; at least three years of practical experience managing a beef cattle operation. Knowledge of the Angus breed and experience with the beef industry; knowledge and experience with pasture and range management; knowledge and experience with budgeting and economic forecasting; excellent skills in communication and supervision are a must. Experience in artificial insemination, nutrition, forage production, ration formulation, and herd health. Hold current or obtain pesticide/herbicide license.

Preferred: Master's degree in Animal Sciences or related field.
