Description:

Bessac Inc is the North American subsidiary of Bessac, a French general contracting company specializing in the construction of tunnels and microtunnels. We have been building underground structures about 50 years to serve a variety of applications including metro, water distribution, sewer, energy, mining, oil & gas, nuclear site, utility tunnel, sea intake and outfall. We master all mechanized excavation techniques (microtunneling, EPB TBM, Slurry TBM, air pressurized TBM) and has over 120 km of microtunneling and tunnelling experience in about 100 projects in last 5 years. We operate in more than 20 countries and 60% of company sales are international. Bessac is a subsidiary of VINCI, one of the largest construction groups in the world.

Location:

  • Bessac conducts its operations primarily from Denver, Colorado

Position overview:

  • In charge of the estimates for TBM tunneling and microtunneling projects in the US and Canada.

Essential Functions:

  • Preparation and wrap-up of technical and commercial proposals.
  • Provide technical assistance to clients.
  • Coordination and development of engineering and methods.
  • Technical, financial & contractual risk assessment.
  • Hand-over of acquired contracts to operations.
  • Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work, attend pre-bid meetings, conduct site visits, interact with operations staff to develop work approach, prepare quantity takeoffs and input data into computerized estimating software.
  • Review design options and recommend best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials.
  • Work directly with staff and operations department on completing various project estimates and documentation.
  • Manage the available bid time to insure accurate and timely preparation of assigned portion of estimate.
  • Maintain files of working documents as back-up for estimates figures including current (accurate) information on prices from suppliers through direct contact, sales brochures, price lists, etc.
  • Organize and detail the estimate so that it can be easily understood for review purposes and efficiently turned over to field personnel.
  • Review and incorporate historical data from purchase orders, subcontracts and productivity analysis reports, etc. into current estimates.
  • Ensures estimate accuracy to the maximum extent reasonable and achievable.
  • Maintain the highest standards of professionalism, fairness and ethical behavior when representing Bessac to clients, engineers, vendors, and partners.
  • Coordination and participation in commercial proposals and prequalification for projects
  • Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide ranging climates and environments.
  • Travel is required for this role.

Education & Training:

  • BS Degree in Civil Engineering,
  • Additional skills: Construction Management, Construction Engineering or equivalent degree and experience.

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in TBM tunneling.
  • Estimating experience is a plus

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Knowledge on TBM tunneling and microtunneling projects.
  • Advanced knowledge of estimating techniques and cost control, plus ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems essential.
  • Software skills to include MS Project, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Estimating software (HCCS, B2W, InEight or similar).
  • Converse effectively using both verbal and written communication.
  • Make decisions and assume accountability.
  • Concentrate on tasks.
  • Demonstrate ability to manage stress and emotions as related to the workplace.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Identify and resolve conflict.
  • Assess safety and risk.
  • Ability to work in a multi-national team..
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License.

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to work underground (not claustrophobic and not subject to fear of heights).
  • Lift, carry, pull and push at least 40 pounds.
  • Travel per the company travel policy, sometimes overnight and away from home, across the U.S. and Canada.
  • Able to concentrate at a high degree in a busy and noisy construction environment.
  • Able to work late and/or early due to time zones and/or workload.
