Kindergarten – 4th Grade BESTY Program CoordinatorSummary: BESTY is Beth El Synagogue’s Shabbat morning program for kindergarten – 4th grade students. The goal of the program is to provide a fun and engaging environment for students to engage with their friends, with Judaism, and with Shabbat culture at Beth El. We teach Torah and Jewish values in an age-appropriate way using games, Shabbat-friendly crafts, and stories. BESTY runs from 9:00am – 12:00pm on Shabbat (Saturday mornings) throughout the school year and is free for all participants. The BESTY Program Coordinator is responsible for writing the BESTY curriculum and facilitating a successful program each week. They will create weekly lesson plans and communicate them with the BESTY teachers. They will work with teachers and the director of youth engagement to ensure that all materials are on hand each week and that the program runs smoothly. They will provide additional staffing support as needed to address behavioral needs with students and to assist BESTY teachers. This is a part-time position with 5-6 hours of work per week. Specific Responsibilities Include:
Write weekly class plans and activities to be led by BESTY teachers throughout the schoolyear Communicate class plans with teachers ahead of time
Facilitate class plans on Shabbat morning by providing necessary materials and information for BESTY teachers and keeping classes on schedule (30 sessions/year)
Provide additional behavioral support for students as needed
Delegate responsibilities to adult and teen BESTY teachers as needed
Attend staff trainings on inclusion, behavioral management, program development, and first aid
Opportunity to combine this role with our High Holiday Childcare Coordinator position, with responsibilities on the following holidays:
Rosh Hashanah (day 1 and 2)
Yom Kippur (KN, YK, NI)
Serve as a role model for students, both secularly and Jewishly
Other duties as assigned
Compensation: Monthly stipend of $600. Position runs from August 1 – May 31 Education/Experience:
History of working within an early elementary setting
Excellent at working with young children
Knowledge of basic Jewish traditions and practice
