JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Assistant Resident Director - Graduate Assistantship (Asst. RD/GA) Date: Fall 2024

Department: Student Development

Reports to: Director of Residence Life and Resident Director

BASIC FUNCTION:

Facilitates a residential area environment that maximizes student growth and development.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Assists in coordinating the programming of academic, spiritual, multicultural, service, and social activities that serve to educate the whole student.
  • Directs the following administrative functions within the residence hall: student accountability, activities, on-duty responsibilities, and emergency operations. Assists the RD in administering the following functions: building maintenance, hall operations, budges, and reporting.
  • Supports individual residents in personal growth, academic continuance, and wellness.
  • Intervenes in crisis situations and maintains current files of counseling and discipline sessions.
  • Assists in the selection, training, and supervision of Resident Assistants.
  • Remains available and visible to students. The Assistant Resident Director will serve as a liaison between students and other administrators. This includes working to be acquainted with all students, developing rapport with students, being visible at hall and campus events and regularly eating meals in the dining facilities. Furthermore, a resident director must maintain this position as their only form of employment in order to have ample time for the "ministry of presence."
  • Submits weekly, semester, and annual reports to Student Development Directors as requested. Communicates regularly to keep Student Development leadership informed regarding problems, trends, and issues within the residential facilities.
  • Remains on call daily, August 1 - May 15, except during vacation times when residential facilities are closed or when using 4 nights away as arranged with the Director of Residence Life
    - Remains on campus to close the residential facilities for each vacation period and returns to campus at least 18 hours before the facility officially open after vacation periods.
    - Remains on campus during major community events such as Welcome Week, Homecoming Weekend, Go2BU, Spiritual Emphasis weeks, Leadership Weekend, Graduation Weekend, and the first and last weekend of each semester.
  • Assists Bethel University in the following community commitments:
    - To invest in and prioritize the spiritual vibrancy of one another.
    - To celebrate and learn from diverse cultural and racial experiences and heritages.
