JOB DESCRIPTION

CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt, Full-Time

TITLE: Bilingual Pediatric Dental Assistant

REPORTS TO: Dental Director

JOB SUMMARY

Bethesda Clinic is a Christ-Centered ministry that provides high quality, affordable medical, dental & mental health care for the low-income family population in the East Texas area. The pediatric clinic dental assistant job is to help make the dental operations run smoothly. This involves working daily with the dentists, preparing the operatory and patients for needed procedures and assisting in all procedures and cleaning the rooms and instruments after use. Also included is proficiency with the electronic records system.

JOB DUTIES

  • Assist dentist with patient management and all procedures.
  • Comfort patient on arrival and explain why patient is having appointment and planned procedure for the visit.
  • Keep the dental rooms clean and all equipment and instruments set up for the planned procedure.
  • Clean the room after the procedure.
  • Clean and sterilize instruments and trays and have them properly stored in the rooms.
  • Manage infection and hazard control protocol consistent with published professional guidelines.
  • Prepare tray set-ups for a variety of procedures.
  • Record patient information regarding dental emergencies.
  • Be certified and able to take digital oral x-rays.
  • Explain after-care plans and answer any questions.
  • Stock supplies in the room.
  • Take dental impressions.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certified Dental Assistant Training
  • Computer knowledge to include windows, Microsoft office (word, excel, outlook).
  • Must be Bilingual
  • Office skills to operate all office machines as needed (copier, fax, etc.), typing.
  • CPR Certified

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The employee will be exposed to viruses, disease and infection from patients and specimens in the working environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Standing, walking, sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, crouching, crawling, stooping, kneeling, reaching, manual dexterity, and tactile sensitivity are some of the physical activities that dental assistants may perform frequently or occasionally.
  • May need to lift or move objects that weigh up to 10 to 50 pounds, such as patients, equipment, and supplies.
  • Must have good vision to see details of objects that are close or far away, as well as differences in colors, shades, and brightness.
  • Must have good hearing to understand the speech of other people and recognize the difference between sounds.
  • Must have good communication skills to speak clearly and effectively with patients and their families, colleagues, health care providers, and the public.
  • Must have emotional maturity and stability to handle highly stressful human situations in a calm and rational manner.

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday.
